After 14 years as Group CEO of IntoWork, Poul Bottern has recently tendered his resignation, effective from the end of June this year, as he pursues other business interests.

The Board of IntoWork would like to acknowledge and thank Poul for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication, expertise and strategic guidance over the past 14 years, building IntoWork into the large, respected and leading provider in the sector it is today.

Given Poul’s focus over the coming weeks to ensure an effective handover including working with our Boards on governance matters, we have appointed Christine Zechowski as Acting Group CEO, whilst we recruit for an ongoing Group CEO. Christine has been with IntoWork for many years, including as Group Chief Commercial Officer. She is joined by a strong Executive team and experienced CEOs, so IntoWork is in good hands.

In communicating with Staff, Poul noted: It has been a pleasure and privilege to lead IntoWork with the Board and Leadership Team. My highlights have been many, from our growth of 125 to 2,600 skilled staff, expansion across Australia and New Zealand, and increasing services for the most marginalised and disadvantaged members of our community. However, the largest highlight for me has been the pleasure of working with the fantastic group of people within IntoWork as well as our business partners and the broader sectors we engage with!

We thank Poul for his significant contribution and wish him and his family the very best for the future.

Recently, our CEO Ben Dahlstrom and Chair of the Board, Stan Liaros, were privileged to show the Director General of the DTWD, Jodie Wallace, around our Nara campus in Bunbury. The Director General met with students and staff and had a wide-ranging conversation about, amongst other things, the opportunities and challenges faced by the non-TAFE sector. It was very interesting to hear from the Director General about her vision for the role and how businesses like Skill Hire can play a part in the broader training landscape of WA.

Last week, the Nara Training & Assessing leadership team attended the IntoWork Australia Extended Leadership Team conference, which brought leaders from across the IntoWork Australia group together for several days of connection, reflection and strategic planning.

Guided by the theme One Team. One Future, the conference created valuable space to step back from the day to day and focus on what lies ahead, how we continue to evolve, align and work together to further support the people and communities we serve.

We were pleased to be joined by Martin Hehir, who brings extensive experience in senior Commonwealth leadership roles, including multiple appointments as Deputy Secretary across employment, education and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. His insights added valuable perspective to our future focused discussions on government partnership and procurement.

A highlight of the conference was a workshop led by Maria Smith from Bounce Global, which focused on continuing to build high trust teams, reinforcing the role of trust, openness and accountability in enabling strong leadership and effective collaboration.

A clear theme emerged throughout the week. When we align as one team and plan with intention, we strengthen our ability to create meaningful, future focused pathways for the people and communities we serve.

As part of the IntoWork Group, Nara was proud to attend and share highlights from the Australian Apprenticeships and Employment Industry Forum, hosted by IntoWork in the Speaker’s Courtyard at Parliament House in Canberra, alongside the Speaker of the House, the Hon Milton Dick MP, and the Hon Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training.

The forum brought together leaders from government, industry, unions, employment services and business CEOs, along with apprentices who shared valuable firsthand insights into the training system and the supports that helped them succeed. Their experiences grounded the discussion in the practical realities of Australia’s training and apprenticeship pathways.

As skills shortages continue to grow across construction, electrical, care and emerging industries, the forum reinforced the essential role apprenticeships play in building Australia’s future workforce. Strengthening and modernising these pathways is key to boosting productivity, increasing workforce participation and ensuring employers can access the skilled workers they need.

A major focus throughout the discussions was the importance of integrated service delivery, bringing together employment, training, disability and social supports to improve apprenticeship completion rates and create a smoother experience for both learners and employers.

At Nara Training & Assessing, we remain committed to delivering high‑quality, hands‑on training that builds capability, confidence and job‑ready skills. With flexible delivery, experienced trainers and strong industry connections, we’re focused on supporting individuals and businesses to meet safety standards, achieve compliance and build a capable workforce for the future.
