I like to include quotes from other people in my books. Nelson Mandela offered much wisdom to the world. One of the quotes I've used of his is:
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

In my book Awesome Careers for Gen Ys, I quoted UK careers expert, Tony Watts, who said "..the career counselling process used to be based on a medical model, with an expert diagnosing the individual's characteristics and prescribing appropriate actions". This medical model is still influential in having people determine their careers today.
We use that old-fashioned model when we ask a child 'what do you want to do when you grow up?' Let's try asking questions like 'what would you like to do to make the world a better place?' or 'what interests you?' or 'who would you like to be like, and why?' Ask questions that encourage them to think or dream.

Over the next few months I will bring you tips about jobs, careers and job search from my two published books. My tip for today is for your job search.
It’s really important to build up momentum in your job search because it will get you results faster. Research, apply, network and be in action all at once. Being in action and staying in action brings a change to your energy around your job search. If you’re sitting in an interview knowing that you have another interview tomorrow, two other applications submitted, four other applications to work on, two networking events to attend and a couple of former colleagues to meet up with re possible work at their new workplaces, you won’t be sitting there desperate and anxious. You’ll be sitting there knowing that this is just one possibility of many and that, if it doesn’t work out, there will be other options for you.
Creating momentum gets results.

An interesting outcome from the pandemic. I know many people who have enjoyed working from home and who say their productivity has increased as a result. Do you enjoy working from home? Would you prefer a hybrid role now?
