๐Ÿ’› R U OK? Day at RWAV

This morning, the RWAV team came together over a morning tea to recognise R U OK? Day and create space for connection, conversation and getting to know each other.

From team bingo to activities inspired by R U OK? resources, it was a great reminder that a simple conversation can make a real difference https://loom.ly/19cA5eI

Every day can be an R U OK? day. By noticing changes and asking the question, we can help someone feel supported and remind them theyโ€™re not alone.

And of course, the team wore yellow to brighten up the office and show our support!

๐Ÿ“ข Project Launch: Mapping Rural Health Workforce Housing Across Victoria

Access to suitable housing is becoming one of the biggest challenges facing rural health workforce recruitment and retention.

RWAV, in partnership with Monash University School of Rural Health, has launched the 'Addressing Housing Availability for the Regional and Rural Workforce: A Rural Housing Mapping Project'.

The project will create the first statewide picture of housing availability and suitability in rural and regional Victoria, and the effects this has on the availability of our rural health workforce.

The knowledge we gain will help inform practical, evidence-based solutions to support health professionals living and working in rural Victoria.

Together, we're building the evidence needed to support a sustainable rural health workforce for the future.

The project will help identify existing gaps in housing availability and their drivers. This knowledge will be used to inform practical, evidence-based solutions to support health professionals living and working in rural Victoria, ultimately working to strengthen access to healthcare for communities across the state.

Together, we're creating the evidence needed to support a sustainable rural health workforce for the future.

Great healthcare careers don't happen by chance; they are built through the right support, opportunities, and experiences.

RWAV collected the insights of health professionals on our 2026 Snap Survey on Rural Healthcare Advocacy Priorities. The responses placed a strong focus on:

๐ŸฅExpanding rural training pathways.
๐ŸซInvesting in multidisciplinary learning hubs.
๐ŸคImproving support for clinical placements and supervision.
๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธCareer progression opportunities and regional internships that help people establish long-term careers in rural communities.

These priorities reflect a shared understanding that workforce growth and sustainability go hand in hand. Attracting healthcare professionals to rural areas is only the start. We also need to ensure professionals continue to stay by giving them access to the training, development, and support needed to build rewarding careers close to the communities they serve.
