Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) is a non-profit government funded organisation improving health care for rural, regional and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Victoria. We recruit GPs, nurses and allied health professionals, and arrange locum relief, as well as providing access to government grants and outreach services.

The rural health funding gap is growing, and action is needed.

A new national report estimates rural, regional and remote Australians receive $9.23 billion less in health-related expenditure each year, while in Victoria’s small rural towns the gap is approximately $2.78 billion.

Closing this gap takes more than funding. It requires sustained investment in the rural health workforce, including training, supervision, attraction and retention support, and the conditions health professionals need to build long-term careers in rural communities.

Now is the time to advocate for stronger investment and practical workforce solutions for rural Victoria.

With support from RWAV, including the Relocation and Retention Incentive, Dr Pamela made the transition to rural practice and is now providing ongoing care to First Nations communities in Sale through Ramahyuck.
