What an absolute privilege it was to host Deputy Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther at our networking event on Friday.

People often ask us where confidence and communication skills come from, honestly, it comes from showing up, meeting different people, and being part of positive spaces that encourage growth and connection.

Balancing business ownership for over 20 years with Be Your Best Physiotherapy, while also dedicating time to council and community work, is truly inspiring. Michelle has genuinely become an inspiration to me, especially in the work I do within the community and through networking.

We are so grateful for Michelle’s kind acceptance of our invitation. The room was filled with smiles, positive conversations, and genuine connections throughout the event. It was wonderful seeing people so inspired and engaged while listening to her experiences and community insights.

“Can you just log in 10 minutes early for admin work?” 🤔

This comes up quite often in office-based roles, so let’s break it down simply.

1. Are they just logging in early?
This usually means they’re signing into their system, getting settled, maybe checking what’s on for the day but not actually doing any work yet. They’re present, but not actively working.

2. Or are they actually starting tasks?
This means they’ve started doing work, checking and responding to emails, updating systems, handling requests, prioritising workloads, or anything that contributes to business output.

And this difference matters.

Because in admin roles, once tasks begin, even if it’s 10 minutes early it is considered work.

In small businesses, this usually isn’t intentional. It often starts as “just log in a bit early and get ahead.”

But over time, if it becomes regular, it can create confusion around expectations and working hours.

A simple way to manage it:

✔ Be clear on when work actually starts
✔ Or include that time in the agreed arrangement if it’s required

Clarity helps avoid misunderstandings later on and keeps things fair on both sides.
