Thank you, Sally Capp and the whole City of Melbourne team 🌟 Your support fuels our mission to bridge the gap between students and their dream careers. We're thrilled to be part of such a welcoming and vibrant community.
Volker and Sherin Breuer founded UPitch.Me, a video recruitment platform designed to assist international students find jobs more easily. This innovative start-up is also one of three winners of our Open Innovation Competition this year, which is why they are my Good News Story of the week!
We are a famously student-friendly city here in Melbourne, but we are always looking for ways to improve the student experience.
UPitch.Me is all about allowing job-seekers to shine. Applicants are invited to submit profile videos of themselves, and they can also reply to employer questions through the video format.
Co-founder Volker Breuer says this is what sets UPitch.Me apart.
“The companies can really get a gist of the candidate’s personality, drive and energy,” says Volker.
“At school you learn subjects but you don’t learn how to get a job. I see UPitch.Me as a way to help young people find their first job.”
As an international student in Perth, Sherin faced her own challenges of finding employment. Thus, the idea for UPitch.Me was born.
“What makes us a bit special is that we are solely focused on the interests of the students,” says Volker.
“Most players in the recruiting space are focussed on the business side. We try to speak the language of students and tackle their biggest problems.”
UPitch.Me preselects applicants for job opportunities, making their journey to employment easier than ever.
“We get very positive feedback from students and companies. A lot of students struggle with writing their CV, but can submit a video CV. And a lot of companies really like that.”
City of Melbourne was delighted to award UPitch.Me a ten thousand dollar prize for their innovative work in this space.
“The experience couldn’t have been any better. I’ve been in a few start-up communities, including in Singapore, London and Berlin. It seems to be a very welcoming start-up community in Melbourne.”
Congratulations, Volker and Sherin! We can’t wait to hear more success stories of students finding rewarding jobs through UPitch.Me.
