Not everyone finishes school knowing exactly what they want to do next, and Brodie was no different. Becoming an electrician had always been somewhere in the back of his mind.

After finishing school, he decided to come back to the idea and simply give it a go.

Now, looking back, his advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is pretty straightforward:
“If you’re willing to learn and put in the effort, you won’t regret it.”

We caught up with Brodie about why he chose the electrical trade, what he enjoys about the work and why he thinks more young people should take the leap.

“This last year of my apprenticeship with you was the best one.”

William joined Impact last year as a fourth-year apprentice, and we still remember him walking through the doors for his interview.

Since then, we’ve had the privilege of watching him grow from a quiet and somewhat timid apprentice into a confident young electrician, and now gaining his A-Grade licence.

Being part of William’s apprenticeship journey and watching him reach this milestone is something we’re incredibly proud of.

For us, this is what it’s all about. Marking 13 years of growth, Impact Apprentices started with an aim to support our apprentices and see them come out the other side ready for the next chapter of their electrical career.

Congratulations, William. We’re so proud of how far you’ve come, and we can’t wait to see where you go from here.

Two new faces have officially entered the Impact villa.

We’re very happy to welcome Gage and Dino to the team, both ready to get stuck in and continue building their careers in the electrical trade.

They’ve made it through induction, met the team and covered all the important stuff. Now, the real learning begins. We’re looking forward to seeing how they grow over the next few years and, of course, adding two more names to the timesheet reminder list.

Last week, we ran our first School Holiday Skills Centre session, and it was so good to see the kids get stuck into it.

They definitely kept Ian, our Skills Centre instructor, on his toes! From learning how everything worked to wiring up their own boards, there were plenty of questions, a bit of trial and error, and some very happy faces when the lights finally switched on.

“We just want to give young people the chance to have a go, get their hands on the tools and see what the electrical trade is all about. You never know, it might be the thing that sparks an interest and gets them thinking about where they want to go in the future,” says Stephen, Director of Impact Apprentices.

A big thank you to the parents who give their kids the opportunity to explore, try something new and find a career path that feels right for them.

Four new faces, four new electrical careers underway!

Yesterday, we inducted Steph, Ali, Harry and Lucas to the team before they head out and get started with their host employers.

Starting an apprenticeship is a big step. There’s a lot to learn, plenty of new experiences ahead and, hopefully, a few good stories along the way.

As our team continues to grow with each induction, we always make sure every apprentice starts with a clear understanding of what to expect, who’s in their corner and the support available to them throughout their apprenticeship.

A big welcome to our four newest apprentices. We’re looking forward to seeing where the next four years take you!

Welcome to the team, Anthony Liew!

Anthony recently came through our Skills & Development Centre as a mature-age participant looking to refresh his knowledge and skills.

Throughout the five-day program, Anthony really impressed us with his electrical hand skills, attitude and willingness to learn. He showed plenty of potential on the tools and, importantly, a real drive to keep developing.

The Skills Centre gives us a chance to see people in a practical environment — how they approach the work, how they learn and where their potential lies. For Anthony, what he demonstrated during the week opened the door to an opportunity with Impact Apprentices.

We’re very happy to now welcome him to the team and look forward to seeing him continue to grow on the tools.

We're growing!

We'd like to welcome five new faces to the Impact Apprentices team!

Amy, Georgia, Deon, Marios and Joshua, have joined us to commence or continue their electrical apprenticeships, and they'll play a key role in supporting our host employers to get the results they need on site.

Last Tuesday, we attended the Career Expo at Templestowe College!

It was such a good opportunity to meet and chat with students who are exploring their options for after school. We chatted through everything from how to land an apprenticeship to what it's really like working as an electrician day-to-day.

A big thank you to Templestowe College for having us, we love getting out and about to connect with the next generation of sparkies!

Huge congratulations to our August intake at the Skills Centre, who have successfully completed their workshop training!

Over the last week, this group has built the skills, confidence and hands-on experience to find out whether the electrical trade is where their calling lies. It's been great watching these future sparkies open up each day, growing more confident with their tools and with each other.

A massive thank you to our instructor Ian for another intake well done! We can't wait to see how these future sparkies' electrical apprenticeships unfold.

We seriously didn’t want to leave the Melbourne Career Expo!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, had a chat with the team, explored the Skills Centre, or learned more about what an electrical apprenticeship involves. Meeting so many enthusiastic school leavers, parents and career changers reminded us why we love what we do.

The energy, curiosity and excitement over the three days was incredible, and we're so grateful to have been part of it.

A special thank you to Melbourne Career Expo, Nicole Capper and the amazing team for putting together such a fantastic event. We already can't wait for next year!
