QLD employers: psychosocial hazards and workplace gender harassment need a prevention plan.
In Queensland, employers are required to identify and manage psychosocial hazards at work. PCBUs must ensure appropriate measures are in place to prevent and manage risks such as sexual harassment as part of their broader approach to managing psychosocial risks in the workplace.
A few practical reminders for workplaces:
► Psychosocial hazards can come from work design, systems, management, environment, and workplace interactions
► Common examples include:
🔹high job demands (long hours, fatigue, monotony)
🔹low role clarity or poor change management
🔹conflict, bullying, harassment, aggression or violence
🔹inadequate support, supervision or training
► Managing the risk should follow the hierarchy of control (not just "training and a policy")
► Getting it wrong can mean increased absenteeism, productivity loss, workers' comp claims, reports to WorkSafe Qld and regulator action (including compliance notices and prosecutions)
The upside? Compliant workplaces support:
🔹stronger retention and engagement
🔹better performance and change management outcomes
🔹reduced legal and people risk
🔹healthier, more sustainable workplaces
