A little walk around the herb garden to show what I’ve planted so far and some decisions involved.

22/10/2026

Herb plot 2.0 is well and truly underway over here.

We’ve churned up what was remaining of the old herb patch with the hoe and started fresh with 13 beds (previously just 5).

So far we’ve planted out a full row of Marshmallow, Valerian, Burdock, almost full row of Lemon Balm and Chamomile and smaller chunks of Astragalus and Elecampane.

All of the herbs we’re growing so far we have grown before, except for Astragalus and Rosella. Plants were either divided up by roots or saved seed, with a few from MADE FOR THE EARTH | PERTH WA | MEDICINAL HERB NURSERY | ORGANIC who supply the best seed.🫘

I’m not too sure how the Chamomile will fair going in quite late for the WA climate, myself/others usually plant in Winter or early Spring before it warms up hard and fast. We will see, I hope I’m wrong and it flourishes so we can experiment with trellising for harvest ease as shared by our mates at Hop Valley Herb Farm

It’ll be fun to meet some new herbs in the flesh and figure out their growing needs and cycles. 🌀

Left to plant out is Vervain, Tulsi Feverfew, Red Clover, Calendula and Yarrow…maybe something else?!

Team effort having mates sow and pot up heaps of herbs in their various greenhouses for us over the Winter/Spring.

It’s nice to be growing again. Oh and there’s only 5 herb boxes left to preorder for December delivery. 📦

Back home in Cowaramup after 9 huge months over East, returning as a qualified herbalist.

It feels amazing and overwhelming stepping back into the land we’ve missed so dearly, and see all the change, growth and decay (in a good way).🥀

Posting to let you know that the herb offerings are dripping back here slowly, and I need your support to help me spread the word on this crashing platform skull☠️

First thing you can do to support is tell ur friends. Tell them I’m here, forward my posts, buy someone a herb box gift, or just mention Tamara the herbalist to your neighbour & my snail mail list on my web.

So far herbal CSA boxes are back and ready for pre-order. I’m going to change the date and have these out to folks early December at the start of the hot and dry season.

This time of year feels better to start supporting yourself with solstice, Christmas, social and silly hot season on Wardandi country and across the country.

This means the boxes are a lovely gift and end of year treat for loved ones.

There’s only 7 boxes left to pre-order, so grab one nice and early for delivery early December 2026.

Now that I’m back home, the herb garden is getting a huge reset and feed, to be planted out in the coming week with lovely medicines.

From here I hope to open the shop, get back into sharing workshops, community offerings and open my herbal clinic. If you know of any ways that I can get stuck into Herbal offerings and want to help or share any contacts or opportunities for me to share the herbs, please reach out. I’d love to grow you herbs or work with you!

Love you. Find the 🔗 where you usually do.

Let me know if you’re looking forward to any specific offerings so I can begin my journey into full time herbalist!

I’m not officially back in the herb garden, but I am letting you know that Seasonal Herbal Medicine boxes are back for pre-ordering after a whole year off. 👏 👏

I’ll be back to the garden in a week prepping and planting out the very herbs that will land in medicines for you in January 2027, just 3 months away.

If you would like a ready to use box of seasonally relevant herbal medicines grown and made locally this (newly qualified herbalist!) and ramping up herb farmer, please pre order nice and early. If you would like to gift one, these make a lovely Summer Solstice style gift idea. Limited boxes available. Happy to answer all your questions.

All herbal medicine boxes are the same and include 5 ready to use herbal medicines to use through the season or add to your herbal first aid kit in the form of teas, tinctures/elixirs, syrups, salves, soaps, and more. All safety and dose/use information is included.

Pay what you can afford $70-100 and select shipping or local pick up (which I almost always deliver if within 20 minutes of Cowaramup).

Thank you to herb farmers at Hop Valley for the idea and pricing inspiration. Check out their seasonal herb parcels which are available too.

Thank you for the invite to share some words in the latest Winter newsletter 🌳 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙴𝚕𝚍𝚎𝚛 𝚃𝚛𝚎𝚎 🌳. 🌨️🌹

I shared some practical tips for feral herbalists who are studying at uni, with their clinical component down the road. I liked offering this as a reminder to myself (& readers) that it’s very ok to be different to what we may think is the ‘one approach’ to clinical herbalism and to keep you love of herbs alive through medicine making and small acts of community. 🍵 I also admit to buying my first pair of clean shoes in years which I’m managing to keep relatively clean in the city.

Download a copy over at The Elder Trees website and support community herbalism initiatives like this one, lots of sweet contributions in this edition.

Half way to being done with the uni clinic thing. 🏫

I’m very surprised how much I’ve enjoyed the clinic days, having had a nearly full load of folks to practice on each block (much to my surprise)and find some of the blooming parts of my clinical herbalist vibe.

Herbal medicine students only spend 2 trimesters in clinic, so I’m trying to soak up this experience knowing it’ll be over in a flash. I’ve been a combo tired and frazzled, chirpy and grateful.

Here’s my reflections and some perspectives that have got me through, relatively unscathed, by a sometimes conflicting/hard to love learning institution.

🌿BYO delicious herbal infusions every day, to remind you of simple herbal goodness, and also cos you won’t touch many herbs in this particular clinic.
🌿Load up on allllll the nervous system tinctures and teas, do the self care stuff available to you.
🌿Try be comfy with being challenged by supervisors and get comfy with saying I don’t know. They there to help.
🌿 Ask so many questions of other students and supervisors, it’s such a rare environment to be surrounded by people that love what you love, yet approach things differently.
🌿Everyone is navigating very different capacities and a little friendly encouragement means the world to others.
🌿 Know that I have the rest of my herbal life to ‘do things differently’ and at a different pace to what we’re taught. Clinic can be far too fast paced to properly take in what’s going on in depth. I have walked out on a few occasions and thought “what just happened?”
🌿 Note areas that you’d like to learn more about after study is done - a few that stand out for me include energetics of herbs, trauma informed care, supporting folks beyond gender binaries, and anti-diet nutrition. Feel free to tell me where you go to learn these things and I’ll tell you too! Got a list.

Living extracts 2-day course with Taj from was a hoot. 🦉

Had so much fun hanging with big herb nerds and learning new fun tincture and percolation math, to go a level deeper on my medicine making and dispensary building when I’m finished studying . 💗

There’s an online offering and also a couple more in person coming up. Go along if you’re fairly-new to fairly-experienced, always something new to learn and herb people to be inspired by. 🌿🍵

Cute visual recap of our first three months of living on Wurundjeri country, hitting nearly half way mark of my final 6 months of Clinical Herbalism studies on campus, finding some time for new hobbies, walks and getaways with pals and enjoying a cosy/quiet time off the farm with my dude.
