PSA: We have raised the delays in processing duck licences and quotas with DPIRD and the NSW Minister for Agriculture. We are still waiting for the matter to be resolved, and the RGA will follow up with the Minister again on Monday morning. We will share an update as soon as we have one!

In the meantime, growers with a current shooterโ€™s licence can continue to scare ducks using live am******on. Please follow all licence and fi****ms conditions.

Also, if native water birds other than ducks, such as black-tailed native hens (โ€œturbo chooksโ€), are damaging your crop, you need to apply to the Biodiversity and Heritage Regulator for a licence. These were previously handled by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. More information will be available next week.

Questions? Contact the RGA at [email protected].

RGA Executive Director Perin Davey joined representatives from local government and business in Leeton to meet with Minister for Water Murray Watt to discuss the Basin Plan review.

The message was simple - water recovery has real impacts and for too long local communities have been sidelined in the decision making.

The Minister made it clear that the next iteration of the Basin Plan does not need to be the same as the current one - and we would hope not. We need to move beyond water recovery and look to an outcomes-focused management plan.

Probably the most powerful message came from the SunRice mill workers, who explained that past restructures were due to drought, but the most recent loss of 78 jobs hurt more because "we've had rain, there is water there - you just can't use it to grow rice."

๐ŸŒพ Enjoyed catching up with SunRice Group's Anthony McFarlane and my friend Perin Davey, newly appointed Executive Director of the Ricegrowers' Association of Australia and former Nationals Senator.

Australian growers produce more rice per megalitre than anywhere in the world, with environmental credentials to match.

SunRice's new Protein+ Rice was developed in partnership with CSIRO, bringing together expertise in rice and protein science to add more nutritional value to an Australian-grown staple. ๐Ÿš

Thanks for dropping off a pack to try! This kind of collaboration between Australian industry, science and agriculture is an important part of a Future Made in Australia.

๐Ÿšœโ›ฝ Hands off our Fuel Tax Credits.

Fuel Tax Credits are not a subsidy. They simply refund a road tax on fuel that is never used on public roads.

Now activists are pushing to cut or scrap them, adding more costs to farmers, fishers, builders, freight operators, tourism businesses, miners and regional communities already doing it tough.

If Fuel Tax Credits go, Australians will feel it through higher costs for food, freight, housing and local services.

11,838 Australians have already taken action. Join them and sign the petition today. โœ๏ธ
