Going for a job interview? Don’t make this common mistake!

When the interviewer asks, ā€œDo you have any questions for us?ā€ saying ā€œNo, I think I’m goodā€ could mean missing an opportunity to stand out.

At Tailored Workforce, we want employers to find great people — and job seekers to feel confident about showing what they can do. šŸ’™

Here are 3 questions worth preparing before your next interview:

āœ… ā€œWhat would you expect me to achieve in the first six months?ā€
Shows you’re ready to contribute.

āœ… ā€œWhat training will I receive?ā€
Shows you’re serious about learning the role.

āœ… ā€œWhat opportunities are there to grow within the company?ā€
Shows you’re thinking about your future.

šŸ’° What about pay?

Absolutely — you can ask!

In Australia, research the relevant minimum pay rates and award conditions before your interview. If the employer hasn’t explained the salary or hourly rate, ask politely:

ā€œCould you please clarify the pay range and the applicable award or classification for this position?ā€

Before you leave: ✨ Thank the interviewer. ✨ Let them know if you’re genuinely interested. ✨ Ask when you can expect to hear back. ✨ Follow up politely if the expected date passes.

Small steps. Better preparation. A stronger impression.

A GAP IN YOUR EMPLOYMENT HISTORY IS NOT A GAP IN YOUR ABILITIES. YOU MAY HAVE MORE TO OFFER THAN YOU REALISE. šŸ’›

Returning to work after raising children, caring for family, volunteering or navigating life's challenges can feel daunting.

You might question your confidence, worry about explaining a career break or wonder whether your skills are still relevant.

But here's an important reminder: your career break doesn't define your potential. Your experience is part of your story, and it may have helped you develop valuable skills.

At Tailored Workforce, we want to help people recognise those strengths and take their next steps towards meaningful employment.

✨ THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN RETURNING TO WORK

1. Your career break doesn't define your potential.

Time spent raising children, caring for loved ones, volunteering or rebuilding your life can develop valuable capabilities. These experiences can strengthen resilience, adaptability, responsibility and the ability to manage competing demands.

2. You may have more transferable skills than you realise.

Think about the everyday responsibilities you've managed:

āœ… Organising schedules and appointments demonstrates planning and time management.

āœ… Managing household budgets develops financial and resource-management skills.

āœ… Navigating unexpected challenges strengthens problem-solving and adaptability.

āœ… Using online platforms and digital services can build digital literacy.

āœ… Coordinating responsibilities and supporting others can demonstrate communication, teamwork and project coordination.

These experiences can provide practical examples of skills you may be able to bring to an employer.

3. Confidence grows when you recognise your achievements.

Start by asking yourself three simple questions:

šŸ’” What have I learned?

šŸ’” What have I managed?

šŸ’” How have I contributed?

Write down your answers. Identify the skills you've used and consider how they could translate into the workplace.

You don't need to have everything figured out today. Recognising your achievements is a valuable first step towards communicating your strengths and approaching new opportunities with confidence.

At Tailored Workforce, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to recognise their potential and pursue meaningful employment.

We look beyond the dates on a rƩsumƩ to recognise the person, their experience and the possibilities ahead.

šŸ’› Your experience matters. Your skills have value. Your future is full of possibility.

Never too late to find the perfect job.

✨ WHAT IF FAILURE ISN’T THE END OF YOUR STORY, BUT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW POSSIBILITY?

I loved this video! ā¤ļø It is filled with golden nuggets that challenge the way we think about failure, resilience and what it truly means to be human.

I constantly and intentionally reframe my thoughts because I believe how we interpret our experiences can shape how we respond, the decisions we make, and the possibilities we see.

Sometimes, the breakthrough we need begins with a different perspective.

šŸ’” This message resonates deeply with the work of Tailored Workforce.

A setback doesn't define a person. A career change doesn't diminish their potential. And a lack of opportunity today doesn't determine what tomorrow can hold.

At Tailored Workforce, the mission is to connect people with meaningful employment, create pathways to success and help individuals and employers recognise the potential in each other.

Because when we look beyond someone's circumstances, past experiences or perceived limitations, we can begin to see what is possible.

🌱 Your past does not have to define your future. Your next chapter may be closer than you think.

šŸŽ„ I invite you to watch this thought-provoking video. There are so many powerful reminders worth reflecting on and putting into practice.

Here's a question for you: What's one belief you've changed that has made a positive difference in your life?

Share your golden nugget in the comments. Let's inspire one another to think differently, grow stronger and keep moving forward.

What if your next defensive reaction could become your next opportunity to grow?

I came across a thought-provoking piece by Justin Bariso about emotional intelligence and how we can manage defensiveness in the moments that matter most.

It stopped me in my tracks.

We all have those moments.

Someone says something that hits a nerve.
We feel misunderstood, criticised or unsupported.
Our guard goes up.
And suddenly, we’re more focused on defending ourselves than understanding what’s really happening.

But here’s the powerful part:

We can choose what happens next.

As Justin Bariso reminds us, emotional intelligence isn’t about never feeling defensive.

It’s about pausing long enough to respond rather than react.

Three simple reminders particularly resonated with me:

šŸ’” They don’t know.
They haven’t walked in my shoes.

šŸ’” I don’t know.
I haven’t walked in theirs.

šŸ’” This is not an attack.
Could there be another explanation? Could this become a conversation rather than a conflict?

And then there’s the question I love most:

How will I feel about this in five days? Five weeks? Five months? Five years?

Perspective can change everything.

For me, this is what lifelong learning is about, not becoming perfect, but becoming more aware, more curious and more intentional about how we show up.

Because sometimes the greatest growth happens in the space between what triggers us and how we choose to respond.

ā¤ļø What helps you pause when you feel defensive?

Inspired by the work of Justin Bariso on emotional intelligence.

What if you stopped asking, ā€œWhy is this happening to me?ā€ and started asking, ā€œWhat can I do next?ā€

That question can change everything.

We are surrounded by averages.

Average behaviour.
Average expectations.
Average thinking.
Average results.

But average does not have to be your destination.

You have more influence than you may realise.

You can choose to learn something new.

You can choose to spend less time consuming and more time creating.

You can choose to protect your peace.

You can choose not to give fear, insecurity or other people's negativity control over your direction.

You can choose gratitude instead of constant complaining.

You can tell the people you love that you love them.

You can encourage someone.

You can smile at a stranger.

You can start again.

You can set a goal, and take one step towards it.

And when life becomes difficult, remember:

Turmoil can contain opportunity.
Setbacks can contain lessons.
Uncertainty can create growth.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You just have to keep moving.

Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Keep building your capabilities.
Keep bringing value.

Because the most powerful mindset is not:

ā€œSomeone should fix this.ā€

It is:

ā€œWhat can I do?ā€

This is your life.

Your time.

Your move.

So what is YOUR next move?

What if the biggest thing holding you back isn’t your circumstances—but your decision to wait?

We all face setbacks.

Things don’t go to plan.
Opportunities disappear.
People disappoint us.
Sometimes life simply isn’t fair.

But here’s the truth:

You may not control what happens. You always have a choice about what you do next.

I’ve seen incredibly talented people stay stuck because they waited for the perfect moment.

Someday I’ll start.
Someday I’ll take the risk.
Someday I’ll make the change.

But someday is not a strategy.

The people who move forward ask a different question:

ā€œWhat can I do today to make this better?ā€

They learn.
They decide.
They act.
They adapt.
They keep moving.

That is how you become indispensable.

Not by having a perfect career.

But by becoming the person who can be counted on when things aren’t perfect.

So don't wait for better circumstances.

Create better circumstances.

Want to become indispensable?

Then stop waiting for opportunity.
Become the person opportunity looks for.
The most valuable people aren’t necessarily the ones with the most qualifications.
They’re the ones who keep learning, take action and make things better, no matter what.

Here are 3 habits that can change your trajectory:

READ: Read one non-fiction book each month that makes you better at what you do. Just 10 minutes a day can become 12 books a year. 60 books in five years. Imagine what that could do for your knowledge, confidence and career.

SHARE Don’t keep great ideas to yourself. Start a book club. Share what you’re learning. Help others grow.
Because when learning becomes shared, learning becomes contagious.

ACT Don’t just complain about what isn’t working. Ask: ā€œWhat can I do to make this better?ā€Then act. Because circumstances don’t determine your future. Your response to them does. The indispensable person is an eager learner, action-taker and opportunity-seeker. As the Zen proverb says:
ā€œIf you wish to know the road up the mountain, ask the man who goes back and forth on it.
ā€Your future is being shaped by what you read, who you learn from and what you do with what you learn.

Your challenge: Read. Share. Act. Read one book this month.
Share one idea with your team.
Take one action that makes something better.

Five years from now, you can be more valuable, more capable and more confident than you are today.

But it starts with one choice.
Choose to learn. Choose to act. Choose to grow.

Follow us, like, comment and share.

What if we could go to work, do our best, feel valued and supported — and come home feeling better, not worse, because of where we work? ā¤ļø

Imagine if that were the standard for every workplace.

We spend around one-third of our adult lives at work. Surely, where we spend so much of our time should be a place that supports our health, wellbeing and ability to thrive.

Yet mental health at work remains an issue we cannot afford to ignore.

šŸ’™ 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition in any year.

šŸ’™ 1 in 2 will experience one during their lifetime.

šŸ’™ Work-related stress affects millions of people and can impact not only individuals, but families, colleagues, businesses and communities.

And here's something worth remembering: at some point in our working lives, we are likely to work alongside — or manage — someone experiencing a mental health challenge.

Whether we know it or not.

So, what can we do?

We can create workplaces where people feel safe to speak up, where concerns are taken seriously, where risks to psychological health are identified and managed, and where people receive support before challenges become crises.

We can lead with empathy, listen without judgement, recognise the signs of stress and make it easier for people to ask for help.

And we can remember that behind every job title, deadline, target and performance measure is a human being.

Because workplace mental health isn't just a personal issue. It's a leadership issue, a safety issue and a business issue.

The benefits extend to everyone: healthier people, stronger relationships, greater engagement, improved productivity and workplaces where people want to stay and contribute.

Imagine a workplace where people feel supported, respected, valued and able to do their best work without sacrificing their wellbeing.

That workplace is possible — but it takes commitment, action and all of us playing our part.

šŸ’› This WorkSafe Month, let's move beyond talking about mental health and take practical steps to protect psychological health and create mentally healthy workplaces.

Because people matter.

Their health matters.

And how we treat people at work matters.

Let's build workplaces where people can thrive — not just survive.

Your interview starts before you say a word.

You can have the right experience, the right answers and the right qualifications—but how you show up can shape the conversation from the very first moment.

Your posture.
Your eye contact.
Your smile.
Your pace.
Even your breathing.

These small signals can help communicate confidence, openness and professionalism.

That’s why we’ve put together 7 simple body-language reminders to help you walk into your next interview feeling prepared, present and confident.

Stand tall. Breathe. Connect. Be yourself.

At Tailored Workforce, we believe preparation is about more than getting the job. It’s about helping people recognise their strengths—and confidently communicate them.

What’s one interview tip you would give someone preparing for their next opportunity?
This is one of my favourite TED talks on the topic https://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_may_shape_who_you_are
