40 years in the making, and our boy S**i was right there in the middle of it!

Canex Resources is bursting with pride for our PALM Scheme worker S**i Konden, and what a story this is!

S**i was recruited by Canex from Papua New Guinea to work at Carey Bros Meatworks in Toowoomba, and like many passionate footballers, he found a local club on the weekends, pulling on the boots for the Warwick Cowboys in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition. Work first. Rugby on the weekends. The way it should be.

This September, everything came together in the most extraordinary way. The Warwick Cowboys won the Toowoomba Rugby League Grand Final, their first premiership in 40 years. And S**i played a starring role, scoring a try and setting up another on the biggest day in the club’s recent history.

True to his word, Canex Managing Director Mark Cantoni made the trip to Toowoomba to watch S**i play, and the moment was everything. S**i was absolutely stoked, and honestly, so were we.

This is exactly what the PALM Scheme represents at its best. A hardworking young man from PNG, giving his all at work during the week, and contributing to his community on the weekend, and being rewarded with a moment he will never forget.

Congratulations, S**i. The entire Canex family couldn’t be prouder.

Canex Resources was proud to recently sponsor a remote Indigenous community team, Elcho Island Dolphins, to compete in a junior rugby league tournament in Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory. And what an experience it was.

Watching young Indigenous athletes take the field, represent their community, and compete with pride and passion was a reminder of exactly why initiatives like this matter. Sport builds confidence. It builds connections. And it builds futures.
