Check out today’s general practice tip: There are six 3GA programs to assist you in meeting your 19AA requirements. These are AGPT, RVTS, ACRRM IP, RACGP FSP, PFP, and AMDS.

Remember that PFP and AMDS are not pathways to Fellowship, however, will help you meet your 19AA requirement.

19AA requires Non-Vocationally Registered (Non-VR) Doctors who are Permanent Residents or Citizens of Australia to be enrolled on an approved 3GA training program to be able to gain access to Medicare benefits.

💡 Note: GPs who are hoping to achieve Fellowship with ACRRM or RACGP are required to join a GP Training Program (AGPT, RVTS, IP or FSP) to be eligible to sit the Fellowship exams. Once you achieve Fellowship and gain Specialist Registration, you’ll become a Vocationally Registered (VR) Doctor which means you no longer need to remain in a 3GA training program.

📥 Question From Our Inbox: What are the Pathways to GP Fellowship in Australia?

In Australia, there are two Colleges where you can train to become a Specialist General Practitioner (GP) — ACRRM and RACGP. Completing a Fellowship with either one will get you recognised as a Specialist for either college.

Note: You must participate in a GP training program before you are eligible to sit the Fellowship exams.

This means, your first step towards Fellowship is to decide what training program (AGPT, RVTS, IP or FSP) and which College (ACRRM or RACGP) you would like to join.
