⚖️ FINAL STRETCH ⚖️

After years of juggling work, business, family, life, assignments, late nights, early mornings, self-doubt, determination, and more coffee than I’d care to admit… I am officially down to ONE exam.

One exam stands between me and completing my Bachelor of Laws (Honours).

These last few days aren’t about perfection. They’re about persistence. They’re about showing up when you’re tired, staying focused when you’re over it, and remembering why you started in the first place.

The finish line is finally in sight.

To everyone studying, chasing a dream, changing careers, building a business, raising a family, or proving to themselves that they can do hard things—keep going. Sometimes success is simply refusing to quit when the end is so close.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have one final exam to conquer. 📚⚖️

Will AI replace HR?

It's the question I'm getting from business owners almost every week — and with all the talk about 2026 being the "year of AI", I understand why.

Here's my honest take: No. But it WILL change how HR works.

AI is brilliant at the admin, drafting contracts, building policies, summarising legislation. What it can't do is read the room when an employee breaks down in a performance chat, weigh up the human impact of a redundancy, or build the trust that keeps good people in your team.

People don't leave companies. They leave leaders, cultures and experiences. And those are still profoundly human.

The future isn't HR vs AI. It's HR AI — using the tech to free up time for the conversations that actually matter.

🍞 Saturday Bread Making 🍞

There is something incredibly satisfying about slowing down, getting your hands into the dough, and creating something from scratch.

Today was all about making bread – both traditional and gluten-free. From measuring ingredients, mixing and kneading, to watching the dough rise and finally pulling fresh loaves from the oven, it’s a reminder that some of life’s greatest pleasures come from the simplest things.

In a world that moves so fast, taking a step back to be a little more self-sufficient feels grounding. Knowing exactly what’s in your food, creating it with care, and sharing it with family is time well spent.

Fresh bread, a warm kitchen, and a slower pace for a Saturday. ❤️

Payday super is coming — and somehow it’s a surprise?

I’ll be honest, I don’t understand the panic.

Payday super was announced back in 2023. It passed Parliament in November last year. It starts 1 July 2026. That’s not a sneak attack — that’s years of notice.

So when I see businesses now throwing their hands up, crying unfair and asking how on earth they’ll ever afford to pay super at the same time as wages… I’m genuinely puzzled. You knew. We all knew. It’s been on every payroll provider’s homepage, every accountant’s newsletter, and every HR update for ages.

When you know something is coming, why wouldn’t you start preparing? Put a little aside each pay run. Build it up. Let it quietly become part of your cashflow until the day arrives and it’s a non-event.

It’s like knowing a cyclone is coming and doing nothing — then acting shocked when it hits and you’ve got nothing left.

I’ve always believed in being prepared. Do the work early and you don’t have to lie awake worrying about how you’ll cope.

Or is that just me who thinks like that? 🤔

A little reflection moment 💛

My Trimester 1 Student Experience of Teaching results just came through for The Future of Work (1007GBS) at Griffith University, and I'm sitting here feeling genuinely grateful.

100% of students said they were satisfied with the teaching. 60% nominated me for a teaching award. And the comments? They've made my whole week.

A few that meant the most:
🗣️ "She was very engaging and always used real-life examples to show her deep knowledge in the subject. I hope to see her around more often!"
🗣️ "Lovely individual, gave genuine career advice, and was very inspirational in her life, career, and values."
🗣️ "She is so nice, and being an expert in the area herself, it is really helpful... it made me feel seen and acknowledged."
🗣️ "Nothing! Love her – she deserves recognition."
🗣️ "No improvements. I would be delighted to have Paulette as a tutor again."

Bringing 20+ years of real HR experience into the classroom is one of my favourite things to do. Helping the next generation of professionals understand the why behind workplace decisions, not just the rules, is exactly why I love teaching alongside running Fresh HR Insights.
