What Is Employee Stress Really Costing Your Business?

As organisations set budgets and growth targets for the new financial year, one question is often overlooked:

Have we included support for when our people are struggling?

An EAP provides confidential counselling and support services that help employees navigate personal and workplace challenges - before those challenges impact performance, engagement, or retention.
Businesses that invest wisely now will thrive in FY2026-27 – and you decide what you need, how to make it effective for the staff, and protect your business budget

"One of the funny things about living in Queensland is loving winter more than most people I know. Maybe it's because we spend so much of the year in the heat, but give me snow, ski slopes, and the mountains any day.

This photo is from one of my favourite winter escapes.

Happy first day of winter."

“A few extra dollars used to feel like a small reason to move jobs.
Not anymore.

With cost-of-living pressure, rising rents and commuting costs, even a modest salary increase can be enough to make employees look elsewhere.

We’re seeing this play out again - and it feels very similar to the COVID market.
Here’s what employers need to consider.”

As the pressure between income and cost of living grows - what are employers able to do to help staff with this financial instability?

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the poll.
The results were especially interesting given how evenly split the responses were. There was no clear winner, which reinforces that employers and employees are experiencing very different market conditions depending on industry, role, leadership, and workplace culture.

While we continue to see job ads declining, these results show why trends like this should always be viewed alongside other data points and real-world experiences.

For employees and job seekers, it’s also a reminder that diversity in your job search strategy is key. Relying on SEEK alone could mean missing out on opportunities, with many roles being filled through networks, direct applications, referrals, recruiters, and alternative platforms.

“We need a great salesperson.”

Most businesses say this.

But the real question is: what kind of salesperson do you actually need? Because not all salespeople sell the same way.

Some are hunters.
Some are farmers.
Some are strong account managers.
Some thrive in consultative selling.
Others are better suited to shorter, more transactional sales cycles.

And that matters.

In this podcast episode, I talk through some of the mistakes made when hiring sales people and how to get it right, because Sales recruitment is not just about finding someone who can sell.

It’s about finding someone who can sell your product, to your market, in your environment.

“We just can’t seem to find the right people to fit our culture.”
I hear this a lot and sometimes it is true, but sometimes the harder truth is this:

People are not failing to fit the culture. They are reacting to it.

If people keep leaving the same role, the same team, or the same manager, it may not be a hiring issue.
It may be a culture issue.

• Unclear expectations.
• No direction.
• Poor communication.
• Lack of support.
• Micromanagement.
• A gap between what was promised at interview and what the job actually is.

Recruitment can find people, it can assess skills, experience, motivation and alignment but it cannot make good people stay in an environment that keeps pushing them out.

At some point, the question is not:
“Why can’t we find the right person?” It is, “What are people experiencing once they get here?”

If Your Best People Are Leaving…
It’s Time to Ask Why.

Attrition is often treated as an outcome - and isn’t always about salary.

Often, it’s about leadership, growth, and workplace culture and more often than not, the signal points in one direction: leadership.

So the question is - are you focused on outcomes…or strengthening the people leading to them?
Take the more proactive approach to attrition: read our blog and explore the solutions here - before it’s too late. 👉 https://buff.ly/TSIyFH2

May 2026 Job Ads Report: Hiring Demand Shifts Again

May brought a noticeable shift in SEEK job ad activity - but whether this reflects seasonal movement or something more meaningful is the bigger question.

In our latest Job Ads Update, we look at what changed, where movement was strongest, and what employers should be watching as we head further into the year.

We’re also running a LinkedIn poll on preferred job advertising platforms and channels, with some interesting early responses already coming through.

EOFY is a good time to get your ducks in a row - not just financially, but from a people perspective too.

Before the new financial year begins, it’s worth asking:

✔ Do we have the right people in the right roles?
✔ Are there skill gaps holding the business back?
✔ Which roles will we need to hire for in the next 3–6 months?
✔ Are we at risk of losing key people?
✔ Is our recruitment process ready to support growth?

Strong businesses don’t wait until they are under pressure to start planning.
They review, refine and prepare early.

Whether you need support with workforce planning, recruitment strategy, talent mapping or future hiring needs, The Recruitment People can help you get clear on what comes next.
