Why are unhappy employees staying in jobs?

I speak to hundreds of jobseekers every year. Whilst many are actively looking for that next career progression or dream job, I'd say almost half of current employees are planning to stay at their current company for the remainder of 2026.

Is greater career stability more important in this current market?

I'd have to agree that with so much economic uncertainty, what I'm hearing and seeing from a recruitment perspective is a growing trend of candidates to prioritise career choices that will promote long-term stability over short-term advancement.

And whilst there is no surefire way to future proof your career from uncertainty, if you are deciding to stay in your current job and not make that change, here are suggestions that could help benefit this longer stay in your current role:
⭐ Building stronger connections and learning from successful peers – striking a balance in hybrid roles with peer-to-peer interaction and relationships
⭐ Continuous ongoing learning and setting small actionable goals with your manager and team even if a salary increase isn't possible at this point in time
⭐ Volunteering for new projects ensures practical skill acquisition

A chilly start to the morning with a touch of rain but the company was warm and inviting! ☀️ Filled my cup at the AHRI Coffee Connect at Bundall. ☕️

There’s always something new I learn from conversations with knowledgeable HR, IR and L&D specialists and there’s sometimes a talent acquisition specialist or two! So great to share market insights, exchange stories and business cards that you actually follow up on!

Met so many great people that I’d love to meet up and have coffee with!
