11 men at facing homelessness in Hobart are now in paid work.

We couldn't be prouder of them.

When getting to training is the hard part, we bring the training to you. Since 2024, we’ve worked onsite at Bethlehem House Tasmania with Vinnies Housing Tasmania (Vinnies Tasmania) running courses at the shelter.

One of them is Paul, who now works full-time as a chef at Bethlehem House:
“Having AKG workers coming into Bethlehem House for appointments made this transition much easier for me.”

Well done to the residents for their achievements, and thank you to Civil Contractors Federation - Tasmania, Link Resources RTO 45483 and Rotary Tasmania.

If you live with a hidden disability, AKG's Inclusive Employment Australia program is here for you, and it starts with what you need.

Finding a job is one thing. Finding one that works with your life is what makes it last.

Tameeka, from Bunbury WA, knows this well. While working towards sustained wellness, she found a passion for helping others going through similar struggles, and she started studying towards a career in community services.

She also had a lot to juggle: her studies, her own mental health, and caring for her children and her elderly parents. She needed a job that made room for all of it.

Our Inclusive Employment Australia team worked with Tameeka to find the right fit. In February, she started a commercial cleaning role that gives her the flexibility to keep studying.

Starting work often costs money before you've even been paid. Tameeka's shifts start early, and because she doesn't drive, she's had to pay for Ubers to get there. On top of that, she needed work clothes and a police check before she could begin.

Those costs can add up quickly, especially in the first few weeks before your first pay comes in. For a lot of people, it's these small, upfront expenses that make a new job feel impossible to hold onto.

So we stepped in. We covered her work clothes and police check, and gave her food vouchers so more of her money could go towards getting to work. It meant Tameeka could focus on settling into her new job, without worrying about how to make it to her next shift.

We are SO PROUD of how far Tameeka has come!

If you're living with a disability, injury or health condition and want to work, we're here to work alongside you. Through Inclusive Employment Australia, AKG can help you:
- Get job-ready with coaching and training
- Find work that suits your health, goals and life
- Connect with local employers
- Get practical support once you start, so you can keep your job and grow

Looking for work but not sure where to start?

Who's hiring near you? What do employers want? Who'll give you a fair go?

We know, and we'd love to help you... just like we helped Quinn!

Quinn moved to Victoria after a long break from work. Our team in Corio focused her search on jobs she could get to and stay in.

Quinn had also been worried about how employers would react to her facial tattoos. So, before each interview, we spoke with the employer directly and confirmed they were keen to meet her. She went in knowing she'd be judged on her skills and experience.

When an interview came up for a role we'd discussed with her, we held it at our Corio office, where Quinn already came for her appointments. Being somewhere familiar let her focus on showing what she could do.

She got the job, and her employer has since given positive feedback. We're continuing to support her in the role, and she's already working toward becoming a team leader.

We have locations across Australia, so drop us a message and we'll connect you to your local AKG team!

Getting back into work? Sharon used AKG's free Employability Skills Training to update her resume, sharpen her interview skills and start her job search with confidence.

Over 10 days, she:
- Rewrote her resume so it's clear, easy to read and matched to the job ads she's applying for
- Learned how employers use software to scan resumes for keywords, and how to get past it
- Practised answering interview questions with real examples from her work history
- Got back into a daily routine, starting at 9am each morning

EST is free and open to anyone looking for work, whatever your age or experience. You can enrol yourself in your local EST program via ‘Activities to support you into work’ in Workforce Australia Online.

The right job isn’t just one you get. It’s one that fits you.

Cherilee is one of our Inclusive Employment Australia customers and we’re so happy that we helped her find a job that was exactly what she wanted.

After many years out of the workforce caring for her grandkids, she came to our Busselton, WA team and was clear about what she was after: work caring for people or animals, and a role that suited what she could physically do.

Her Job Coach, Pradeep, recognised that Cherilee had the skills from her years of caring.

So, when Pradeep was visiting a NDIS service provider and the conversation turned to staffing, he knew exactly who to mention. He described Cherilee – her warmth, her attitude, the kind of work she wanted.

They asked to meet her. A work trial followed and then the job.

We covered the costs that stood in the way: police clearance, NDIS worker check, First Aid certificate. Shout out to Dress for Success Western Australia for providing Cherilee with interview clothing.

Cherilee is now a home care disability support worker. The person she supports thanks her every visit.

“It makes all the hard work of the day worthwhile just to see his smile.”

It's and this year's theme is "Care for a carer: making carers visible." To every carer reading this, your work matters!

If you’re looking for work and worried the right role doesn’t exist, that’s what we’re here for. Inclusive Employment Australia is a free service for people living with disability, injury or health condition. You tell us what you want and what you need, and we’ll go looking.

Starting a new job can be stressful, and that's completely okay.

As we approach (10th October), we want to remind you that we are here to guide you with coping strategies and build the mental resilience you need to truly thrive at work.

As Katie (AKG Allied Health Clinician- Counsellor) says in this video: don't forget the achievement of securing your job in the first place. Your employer saw something in you. They believed you could do this role.

You don't have to navigate the pressures of work alone. We're here to help.

The right training can lead to a real job. In Traralgon, that's exactly what happened for 19 locals.

They've started jobs at Aussie Broadband after completing a five-day contact centre course we set up with genU and Aussie Broadband.

We connected our Workforce Australia participants to training with genU, where they learned customer service, how to handle calls, how to manage tricky conversations, and the computer skills used on the job.

The Aussie Broadband team then met them at our AKG offices for interviews for roles they had available.

As our participants start work, we stay in touch with them to make sure they settle into their roles and smooth out any hiccups that may come up.

At AKG, we team up with local employers and training providers so the training you do is linked to real jobs.

Want to find out what training and jobs could be right for you? Drop us a message and our team would love to connect with you!

Looking for a job that works with your ADHD, not against it?

You know how you work best. We'll help you find a workplace that knows it too.

AKG's Inclusive Employment Australia program supports people with ADHD to find a job that suits them, and to keep it.

It starts with you. Your goals, your strengths, what you want from work. We build the plan together.

We look beyond the job ad. Our job coaches and partnerships managers visit workplaces to see what the day-to-day is really like, so you can make an informed call about whether it's right for you.

Adjustments that fit you. We don't assume what you need. We ask. If changes at work would help, we can raise them with your employer, or back you to have that conversation yourself. Your choice.

Support that doesn't end on day one. We check in once you've started. Our allied health team is also there for the parts of work that aren't in any job description, like handling feedback and navigating tricky workplace conversations.

Too many people with a disability or health condition lose their job in the first few months, not because they can't do it, but because the support stops.

At AKG, our support doesn't end when you land a job. We keep working with you, and with your employer, so you can stay in work and grow in it.

Michael's story shows what that looks like.

Michael, from the Gold Coast, has a health condition that needs monthly treatment. After each treatment, his mental health takes a hit, and it used to take him around 10 days to feel ready to go back to work.

We helped him land an admin role nearly four months ago. Since then:
- His Employment Consultant, Trish, checks in with him regularly and encourages him through the harder weeks
- Our team worked with his employer to adjust his roster, so he isn't scheduled straight after treatment
- He doesn't lose hours or pay when his treatment comes around
- He's now back at work in around 5 days, instead of 10
- When he felt ready for more, he asked us to talk to his employer, and they gave him 5 extra hours a week

Michael didn't have to find a second job or have those conversations on his own. We had his back.

If you're living with a disability, injury or health condition and want to return to work, or you support someone who does, we'd love to chat. Get in touch here: https://portal.akg.com.au/iea-connect/
