Apprentice vs the old hand. We have all been both.

The apprentice: three energy drinks deep, owns every tool in the catalogue, still reads the manual.
The old hand: one coffee, one screwdriver that does everything, has not read a manual since 2004.

The apprentice measures twice. The old hand eyeballs it and somehow nails it.
The apprentice asks a hundred questions. The old hand gives one word answers that turn out to be gold.

Tag an old hand worth learning from.

A great day on site, and a great start for one of our newest team members.

Our General Manager Sales, Loretta Baxter, was out at one of our client sites this week, a manufacturer of reinforced steel, completing a site safety assessment and checking in with our welders.

The highlight? A brand new welder who started that very day and hit the ground running. The client was genuinely impressed with his performance and passed on some great feedback. That is exactly the kind of start we love to see.

It is what these visits are all about. Keeping safety front and centre, backing our people on site, and building client relationships that last. The doughnuts went down a treat too.

Welcome to the team, and keep it up.

Starting on a new site can be daunting, but nailing the first day is mostly about the basics.

A few things that make a great first impression:

Turn up early. Ten minutes early is on time in this game.
Bring your gear. Tickets, PPE, ID and a decent lunch. Do not rely on someone lending you theirs.
Ask and listen. Do not guess. A quick question to the supervisor beats getting it wrong.
Muck in. A good attitude and a willingness to help get noticed, and remembered.

Do those and you will fit in fast. You already have the skills. The first day is about showing you are reliable and easy to have around.

Starting somewhere new soon? You have got this.

The hi-vis tan. A badge of honour, whether you like it or not.

The farmer’s arms, brown to the elbow and white above.
The sock line you could set a watch by.
The watch strap outline that never fully fades.
And that one perfect stripe across the forehead from the hard hat.

Reckon yours is worse? Prove it below.

You cannot understand a job from behind a desk. So we do not try to.

This week our Brisbane Operations Manager, Danika Latsinos, was out on a client site, in full PPE, spending time with our on-hire employees and seeing the work exactly as they do it.

It is something we genuinely believe in. Getting on site, getting our hands dirty, and understanding the day to day of the people we place. It is how we relate to our workers, how we back them properly, and how we help keep our clients’ sites running safely.

When we say we know what it takes on site, we mean it. Because we have been there, boots on, alongside the people doing the work.

Thanks to the team for having us, and to Danika for always leading from the front.

October is National Safe Work Month, and it is a good reminder that safety is not a poster on the wall. It is what you do in the moment.

The single most important safety habit on any site is simple: speak up.

See something that is not right? Flag it.
Say something to your supervisor. Do not walk past it.
Stop if you are unsure. No job is worth the risk.
And remember, reporting a hazard is never dobbing or making a fuss. It is how everyone gets home safe.

The best sites are the ones where people feel free to speak up, every time. Let us make that every site.

Name a better duo. We will wait.

The bacon and egg roll and the servo coffee. The unofficial breakfast of every early start in the country.

Go on, tell us we are wrong. Or name the combo that gets you through the morning.

Safety is not something we leave at the front gate. It travels to every site we place people on.

This week our General Manager Sales, Loretta Baxter, was on site completing a safety assessment at one of our valued client sites, a manufacturer of steel wall and ceiling systems for commercial and residential construction.

It is a relationship we are proud of. We currently supply three forklift operators in Sydney and four production assemblers on the Gold Coast, and we work closely with the team to keep safety standards high across every host site.

Regular site assessments are a big part of how we operate. They keep our people safe, strengthen our client relationships, and make sure everyone goes home in one piece at the end of the day.

Safety is one of our five core pillars, and visits like this are how we live it.
