🚧 Works on the next four Great Northern Highway overtaking lanes between Munjina and Port Hedland are now underway.

The project, due for completion by the end of the year, supports the State Government’s commitment to strengthen the freight network, improving transport efficiency and road safety across the Pilbara.

This major package is jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments to deliver safer outcomes for heavy vehicle drivers and all road users đźš—

🎉 For 100 years, Main Roads Western Australia has proudly contributed to Western Australia’s success – creating jobs, connecting suburbs, towns and cities and growing communities across the State.

Our roads are more than physical infrastructure 🛣️

Our roads carry crops, machinery and freight to ports, essential goods to remote regions, tourists to natural wonders and events and commuters’ home to families.

From 1926 to today’s state-wide network, our roads have evolved alongside our growing State, supporting safer travel, improved connectivity and better mobility for communities across WA 🗺️

As we celebrate our 100 year anniversary, we’re proud to reflect on the journey we’ve shared with Western Australians and look forward to continuing to keep communities connected for generations to come

The Menang Drive and Chester Pass Road Flyover project is making strong progress 🚧

In just five months on site, approximately 50% of the earthworks that will support the new flyover have been completed.

With the cooler autumn weather now upon us, attention had turned to bridgeworks, with footing construction and Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) wall installation underway.

🌉 Bridge works will remain the focus of the project over the winter months, before earthworks resume in the spring.

Upon completion in 2027, the new flyover will complete the Albany Ring Road route, creating a free flowing connection from Chester Pass Road all the way to Albany Port 🚗🚛✨

🚴 🚶 If you’re a regular user of the Mitchell Freeway’s Principal Shared Path (PSP) between Leederville and Northbridge, you’ll notice we’ve recently undertaken important works to improve its surface.

We are pleased to say these works have now been completed, making the journey safer and enhancing the experience for riders and walkers.

The path was widened and resurfaced along two sections, with upgrades completed across two stages. Repairs were also undertaken on the PSP ramp connecting to Leederville Parade, and maintenance items such as critical drainage works and repainting were carried out 🛠️

These types of projects are important to our network, as it ensures we are connecting communities and encouraging multiple active travel modes where possible.

Have you ever come across road workers or traffic controllers on your travels?

They work in busy, high-traffic environments to keep our road network moving often with limited protection and in very vulnerable conditions. With a record number of upgrades underway across WA, you’re likely to see more roadwork sites on your journey.

Here’s how you can help keep everyone safe:

➡️ Follow the signs
Roadwork signage is there to guide you, even if you can’t see workers on site.

➡️ Your speed is our safety
Always follow reduced speed limits. They’re in place to protect you and others from hazards like loose stones, changed road layouts and uneven surfaces.

➡️ Stay alert and follow directions
If traffic controllers are present, follow their instructions.

➡️ Slow down and take care
Every worker on our roads deserves to get home safely.

The new Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path connection between Civic Place and Telford Crescent is now opened 🚶🚴

The 1.4 km new four-metre-wide-path now forms part of the broader PSP network, improving safety, journey times and connections for people walking, riding and commuting in the area.

The path also features a new pedestrian and cyclist underpass with bespoke artwork under Stephenson Avenue 🛣️

Local Western Australia artists David Ledger & Joanne Clark were inspired by Stirling’s market garden heritage and drew upon their personal connection to the area to develop A Patchwork of Stories.

Take a moment to enjoy the artwork as you pass through the new PSP connection.

The opening of the new active transport link was delivered by the Stephenson Avenue Extension (Phase 2) project, improving connectivity for active transport users and accessibility to public transport.

Some finishing works continue on local shared path connections which will continue to open up in stages.
