Today is Youth Road Safety Day, and honestly… we’re fooling ourselves if we think our young people are fully prepared for the road.

Every L‑plater, every young driver, every kid stepping into a car deserves more than luck. They deserve real skills, real confidence and real support — from us as adults, as community, as mentors.

Road safety isn’t a joke, even on April 1.
It’s a responsibility we all share.

Let’s keep our young mob safe, informed and confident behind the wheel.
Their future depends on it.

Meet Tallara Taylor, a proud Gumbaynggirr, Bundjalung and Yaegl woman who’s building a strong future for herself and her community through the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES).

Tallara first connected with AES after finishing high school, looking for guidance and opportunities that aligned with her values. She soon joined the AES Youth Crew, a space for young Aboriginal leaders to share ideas and help shape better employment and training services across the region. From day one, Tallara stood out for her maturity, insight and commitment to lifting others up.

With growing confidence and support from AES, Tallara began her employment journey with a local Aboriginal out‑of‑home‑care organisation. What started as a casual role quickly became full‑time work — a reflection of her work ethic, reliability and natural ability to support others.

Now, Tallara is taking the next step by studying a Certificate IV in Youth Work, building the skills she needs to continue making a meaningful difference in her community.

Tallara’s journey shows what’s possible when young Aboriginal people are supported, encouraged and given opportunities to thrive. She represents the next generation of community‑minded leaders, and we’re proud to walk alongside her.

AES had a deadly time at the Elders Olympics last week in Yamba on Yaegl Country. It was great to be out and about, connecting with community and seeing Elders from so many different areas come together for a day of fun, laughter and friendly competition.

We loved catching up with mob and being part of such a positive, energetic event. We were especially impressed by the school students who volunteered their time. 🙌🏽🌟🖤💛❤️

🍀Community Impact & Confidence Building 🍀

After connecting with the South Grafton High School Clontarf Academy at the recent Clontarf Employment Forum in Coffs Harbour, AES learned that while many of the boys had their L‑plates, a lot of them lacked confidence getting behind the wheel.
To support them, AES set up a full driver‑training simulator in the Clontarf room at South Grafton High. The young men are now working through the mydriveschool.com modules to build their skills and confidence in a safe, supported environment before heading out on the road.

Proud to back their journey toward independence and future employment. 🚗

🌟 Huge congratulations to Alina Walker for already kicking off her 2026 goals in the best way. She’s been working with AES to map out her career pathway plan and has started taking real action toward her future.

One of her first steps was going for her Learner Driver Licence, her persistence and determination paid off.

When she arrived at Service NSW, she found out there were restrictions on her licence due to an outstanding fine for not voting. Instead of giving up, we worked together to set up a Work and Development Order, had the restrictions lifted, and she walked out with her licence all in the same day.

Alina, your resilience, effort, and commitment to your goals are inspiring. This is just the beginning — congratulations on everything you’ve achieved already. 🌟 Alina Walker mydriveschool.com
