A bit of a sad time, we know as therapist clients move on, and as I often say my job is to do my self out of a job. I have many long term clients and this year one was diagnosed with cancer. I wanted and needed to attend the funeral today it has been such a privilege to work with my clients and today I said goodbye to a very special person. Who I also stayed with in her final days my heart breaks, since hearing the news she died, seeing her family and friends today. Life is but a moment don't live to regret your choices!!🦋🦋

Burnout is real, and the effects can be felt for years.

The number below can feel discouraging at first, but it actually explains something important. If you've tried resting and still feel exhausted afterward, that doesn't mean the rest failed. Chronic stress dysregulates the HPA axis, the network responsible for your cortisol response, and research on burnout has found blunted stress hormone patterns and reduced parasympathetic activity even after people start recovering. In other words, your body's actual stress response gets altered at a physiological level, not just a mood level, and that kind of change doesn't reverse in a weekend. It takes sustained, repeated signals of safety over months, sometimes years, for that response to recalibrate.

Here's the helpful part. You don't need to fix it all at once, and you're not behind for still being in it. A few things that actually help the recalibration process: consistent sleep and wake times, even on weekends, since irregular sleep disrupts the same hormonal rhythms burnout already disrupted. Short recovery moments throughout the day rather than saving all your rest for the weekend. Reducing decision fatigue where you can; fewer unnecessary choices free up capacity elsewhere. And actually saying no to nonessential demands while you're rebuilding, instead of only resting once everything else is done.

Rest still matters every single day, even though it isn't the whole cure. Think of it as consistent deposits into a much longer recovery, not a magic fix you're failing to achieve.

Be patient with your timeline. It was never going to be fast, and that's not a reflection of how hard you're trying. 🫶

People think abuse only looks like shouting, hitting, breaking things, blocking doors, or recording your weakest moments to use against you later. But abuse is also neglect when you are sick, silence when you are breaking, and indifference when you need care the most.

Sometimes abuse is not what they do loudly. It is what they refuse to do when your body, mind, or heart is collapsing. Sleeping peacefully after making you cry all night is abuse. Watching you stop eating from grief and still not caring is abuse. Acting normal after you were badly hurt is abuse.

Abuse is also abandoning you during pregnancy, refusing medical care, walking ahead when you are injured, and watching you carry everything alone while they stand there doing nothing. It is not love when someone only stays for your usefulness but disappears from your pain.
