Sometimes it’s in the way they hang back from a group, reach for a familiar educator, or return to the same activity again and again.

In early childhood education, noticing those small cues helps educators respond with patience, care and curiosity. That everyday attention can make a child feel safe enough to explore, connect and learn.

A Blue Card is important. But it isn’t a safeguarding strategy.

When recruiting people to work with children and young people, pre-employment screening is only one part of creating a safer workforce.

Good safeguarding recruitment also means:

🔹 Asking the right questions during interview
🔹 Exploring previous experience working with vulnerable people
🔹 Conducting meaningful reference checks - not just ticking a box
🔹 Looking closely at unexplained employment gaps or inconsistencies
🔹 Assessing a candidate’s understanding of professional boundaries
🔹 Making expectations around child safety clear from day one

And importantly, safeguarding doesn’t finish once someone is hired.

Induction, supervision, training, clear reporting pathways and a culture where concerns can be raised all matter too.

Safer organisations are built through layers of safeguarding - not one check.

For those of us involved in recruitment, that means thinking beyond “Are they qualified?” to also ask:

“Are we confident this person is suitable to work with the people they’ll be supporting?”

We’re recruiting for a not-for-profit organisation supporting adults who have experienced childhood abuse, including institutional child sexual abuse.

You’ll work alongside participants to navigate services, attend appointments, access housing support and take steps towards their goals.

📍 Stones Corner / Greenslopes, with community outreach
💰 SCHADS Level 4: $92,286–$99,294 per year + 12% super + Salary Sacrifice
📅 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential to extend subject to funding

Experience in Redress is welcome but not essential.
