Many of you will now have seen the Australian Government's media release on the expansion of the eligibility criteria for the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal.

The information within the media release is well written and clearly outlines how to go about obtaining the medal if you are entitled to it.

I will be in a position to take orders from 20 May 26. I have had many enquiries already and expect to be flooded with orders over the coming months. I will do my very best to deliver orders in a timely manner but expect there will be delays in getting them out.

The contact details for Defence Honours and Awards is contained within the media release link below FYI.

In the spirit of those ANZACs who landed on the shores of Gallipoli 111 years ago, l encourage you all to commemorate their sacrifices, especially those who paid the supreme sacrifice so that we may live freely.

For those veterans marching and attending services this Anzac Day, be proud that you are amongst the 2.8% of the Australian population who serve in the armed forces of this country, and look after your mates as you remember our fallen.

The following seems to be the latest information released from Defence Honours and Awards re the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal (TLSM).

Defence recognises and acknowledges the deep and sincere friendship between Australia and Timor-Leste.

The Australian Government is seeking confirmation about a proposed expansion of the eligibility criteria of the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal (TLSM).

Should the eligibility be expanded, Defence will make information available for Australian Defence Force members, veterans and families.

Good afternoon one and all.

Many of you will have seen a great deal of social media activity relating to the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal.

Reports indicate that eligibility for this award may be modified which could see more ADF veterans qualify for the medal.

The process for any such action is extensive and time consuming.

Approval of a formal offer from a foreign country by government is the first hurdle.

Then individual applications to Defence Honours and Awards, once called for, will be included on schedules for Governor-General approval.

I very much doubt the above processes will be in place before Anzac Day.

Formal dissemination of information regarding the above will be released by Defence Honours and Awards, so keep an eye on their website for the only official release.

Please resist the temptation to second guess outcomes or determinations of this issue.

I am coming close to not accepting any more orders for Anzac Day, and will not be actioning orders to include the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal without the usual approval documentation from pmkeys or similar (ie approval letter from Defence Honours and Awards).

Just to clear up any confusion and in addition to the above, l have no idea if the posts seen on FaceBook are authentic, and if they are, what the criteria for qualifying service may be.

Therefore l know as much or as little about this as you all do.

Thank you.

Cheers JF

Today, as l do every year, l remember my great mate Noel Bevan (pictured centre front) who was tragically killed in a car crash in Canberra on 16 January 1984.

Noel and l served together as members of the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon through the early 80's.

Noel enlisted in the Australian Regular Army as an apprentice musician in the 30th Class at the Army Apprentices School Balcombe in January 1975.

You are often talked about my friend.

RIP Tex.

After starting on my last medal group for 2025, l hang the tools up as the big hand hits πŸ•› and wish everybody a happy new year πŸΎπŸŽ‰πŸΊ

Let's all hope for a safer and happier 2026, and please spare a thought for the men and women of our Australian Defence Force deployed on operations around the world at this time who are unable to be with loved ones because of their service. Your great nation salutes you πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ«‘

Another big day on the tools. After an early start in the shed, this original set of 12 combined Australian and UK medals were finished after a 12 hour marathon.
Just starting the miniature set now, and tomorrow the matching replica full size medals to do.
Respect and appreciation of a soldier's lifetime of combined service πŸ«‘πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡πŸ‡²

The medal group pictured is the replica group of the damaged originals in my previous post.

I have just finished mounting this replica group.

While l was able to clean and restore the original group to a point, permanent damage has occurred and the medals will remain marked. These marks will not be visible once the medals are mounted, however, the owner will always know they have been damaged.

So please do your research in regards to mounting methods before you hand your medals over to be worked on.

I am very disappointed, to again, receive a medal group that has been damaged during the previous mounting process (which may end up being permanent). Even attention to detail is lacking as the clasps on the AASM have been attached in the wrong order.

An aggressive type of adhesive tape and glue has been used to affix the medals to each other. This has resulted in adhesive and tape solidifying on the medal surfaces themselves, which has left damaging adhesive and other marks all over the obverse and reverse of the medals.

To make things worse these are the member's original medals, which may now carry the scars of poor workmanship for ever.

There is no excuse for this 🀬🀬🀬

Again, Australian police officers out protecting their community are cut down in the line of duty.

Thoughts go out to all our police, and to the families of our fallen officers.
