With nearly 1 in 5 Australian employers considering redundancies, the market is shifting again — and fast.

While cost pressures are a factor, it’s clear businesses are reassessing workforce structure, not just headcount.

For employers, this is a critical moment to plan ahead — whether that’s restructuring, redeployment, or making strategic hiring decisions that protect long-term capability.

For candidates, it’s a reminder of the importance of staying visible, connected, and ready for new opportunities.

At Pace Appointments QLD, we’re working closely with both businesses and talent to navigate these changes — ensuring the right people are in the right roles, even in uncertain times.

If you’re reviewing your workforce or considering your next move, now is the time to have the conversation. Call us on 07 3630 2300.

The escalating conflict in the Middle East is beginning to ripple through global supply chains. Several Australian media outlets have already highlighted potential impacts:

• ABC News reporting that tensions around the Strait of Hormuz — a route that carries roughly 20% of global oil supply — could disrupt global shipping and drive higher fuel costs

• The Guardian Australia covering the rise in oil prices and flow-on effects to fuel and transport costs

• News.com.au reporting Australian exporters facing significant “war-risk” shipping surcharges

For businesses, this creates operational pressure. For the logistics and supply chain industry, it creates complexity. Particularly here in Australia where many businesses rely heavily on global shipping networks, will we see a demand across roles like;

• Freight Forwarding Operations

• Supply Chain Planning

• Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

• Logistics Management

Let us know your thoughts. Are you noticing disruption in your supply chain yet, or is it still too early?

Our Key Relationship Manager, Cherie, attended an International Women’s Day event centred around this year’s theme, “Balance the Scales.”

One statistic that really stood out was that women currently make up just 27% of the manufacturing workforce. There is a strong ambition across the sector to grow that number and create more pathways for women to enter and thrive in manufacturing.

It was great to hear from Minister Dale Last, who spoke about how the manufacturing industry is going through a transformative period of change. With ongoing global supply chain disruptions, the message was clear Australia needs to continue strengthening its manufacturing capability.
Manufacturing truly is the foundation of every industry. It’s the sector that makes everything else possible. Without manufacturing, many of the products, systems and innovations we rely on simply wouldn’t exist.

A few reflections that stayed with me:
• When we create opportunity, we create future leaders
• Curiosity is a muscle it keeps us open to learning and adapting
• Women often undersell themselves and it’s important we continue encouraging confidence and visibility in our industry

Events like this are an important reminder of the progress being made and the work still ahead to ensure more women feel welcomed, supported and empowered in manufacturing.
