Do you frequently adapt your own behaviour to manage a specific employee?

Leaders often have a lightbulb moment when they start using DISC and really get to understand people's behaviour.

It tells you so much about how people operate in the workplace and how they will respond to certain leadership styles.

Once you learn to adapt your own behaviour, it makes it a lot easier to lead, manage and motivate people. Each person has different communication styles, motivators, fears, strengths and limitations.

A great manager can recognise these and manage/support each employee in a way that brings out the best in them.

Treating every employee the same can ultimately hurt your team's success.

A manager without emotional intelligence can undo months of team progress in a single meeting.

It’s not about being “nice” or having good intentions.

It’s about how you read situations, respond to your team, and influence outcomes — every single day.

Leaders (and teams) are naturally stronger in some aspects of emotional intelligence (EQ) than others.

The challenge is knowing exactly where gaps exist.

Measuring EQ is one of the best ways to highlight these areas for development. Once identified, you can strengthen your leadership, better manage your team, and help them handle stress, adapt to change, and tackle challenges more effectively.

For example:

➡️ Scoring high in Assertiveness but low in Emotional Expression can make you come across as driven but detached.

➡️ Scoring low in Stress Management and Adaptability can make navigating change harder — which affects both your performance and your team’s.

There are always pros and cons to higher and lower scores in the Emotional Intelligence traits.

Understanding yourself — and using Emotional Intelligence to coach your team — makes you a far more effective manager, and helps your team perform at its best.

The entry-level staff and graduates you hire/manage today will likely be the core of your team in 2 years.

You’re writing the DNA of your future team, the workplace culture, the way they work together, manage problems and take initiative.

The people you hire today could be your standout performers in 2 years, or a problem you'll still struggling to manage.

Most long-term people problems come down to:
• the wrong hire
• or the right hire managed poorly from day one

We developed the Graduate Pro assessment to solve both
— to help you better select and manage your entry-level hires.

It combines Cognitive Ability (Verbal, Logical and Inductive reasoning) with Big 5 personality traits to answer your most common questions like:

- Can they learn quickly and handle the demands as the role grows?

- Are they a good fit for your team, and how can you manage them to bring out their best?

Today managers working remotely rely on scheduled calls and written updates. They see what’s delivered, but not always how it’s delivered—or what it’s costing the person behind it.

Emotional Intelligence is essential in leadership, but when visibility is low, it has become even more important.

Managers need to understand how people handle pressure, regulate themselves, and stay engaged—especially when they’re working alone.

When those signals are missed, it’s not just performance that suffers. It leads to great people leaving quietly and gradually erodes a positive team culture.

The work environment changed. People didn't. Leading them effectively means understanding their emotional intelligence, not just their output.

I’ve seen thousands of DISC assessments used by organisations in 2025.

Here are some of the biggest wins:

- Helped stressed and underperforming employees to become high achievers
- Moved team members to key leadership positions with great success
- Transformed team dynamics, where constant conflict was damaging productivity
- Hired new, unskilled, inexperienced staff who are now core team members
- Grew from having 1-2 employees, to teams of 10+ with minimal turnover
- Drastically decreased hiring mismatches and quick exits
- Coached their managers to be far more effective at leading different individuals

Many of these results came from simply understanding people better.

When organisations understood their people and teams, it changed the way they hired, managed, trained, supported, and engaged them in the workplace.

Asking the right questions in an interview can change everything.

A few smart, well-framed questions help you quickly understand who someone really is — and whether they’ll thrive in the role.

The wrong questions lead to the wrong decisions and performance or retention issues further down the line.

Many organisations use assessments for aligning people to jobs, building teams, and improving people management.

With our new DISC Interview Reports, they've now become a powerful tool for asking the right questions for the right people.

Remote work changed what we can observe about people.

In a physical workplace, leaders can often pick up on things without needing to ask.

These aren’t formal metrics—they’re signals that help leaders intervene early.

Remote work stripped a lot of that away.

Now, managers rely on scheduled calls and written updates. They see what’s delivered, but not always how it’s delivered—or what it’s costing the person behind it.

I've always believed Emotional Intelligence is essential in leadership, but when visibility is low, it has become even more important.

Managers need to understand how people handle pressure, regulate themselves, and stay engaged—especially when they’re working alone.

When those signals are missed, it’s not just performance that suffers. It leads to great people leaving quietly and gradually erodes a positive team culture.
