Learnings as a new business owner... which may resonate with many.
I've always seen myself as a kind and caring person, and I brought that same mindset to my business. But over the last couple of years, I've had to learn a tough lesson: kindness in business isn't about being a pushover.
I used to say "yes" when I should have said "no," and I gave away my time and expertise for free a little too much. I was confusing being kind with being a people-pleaser.
I've learnt that kindness in business is about being respectful, clear, and fair, to others and to myself. It's about setting boundaries and holding them, even when it feels uncomfortable. It's having the courage to say no to an unrealistic request and to negotiate for what you're worth. This journey has been a struggle, but it's one of the most valuable lessons of my career so far.
While some may have labelled me "too kind" in the past, I now choose to be known for all the things you see in this image below.
