Most people don’t know why St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17.

It is believed to be the day St Patrick died in AD 461, which is why the date became a celebration of his life and influence in Ireland.

Interestingly, around 2.4 million Australians (about 1 in 10) identify Irish ancestry, yet only about 100,000 people living in Australia were actually born in Ireland today.

Fun personal note. Apparently, I’m 7 percent Celtic so I feel mildly entitled to celebrate today. 😄
