Some new faces around the BGT Board table!

We're delighted to welcome four new directors: Luke Fong, Narelle Laing, Samantha Retelj and Michelle Tapera.

We're also pleased to announce Jay Morrison as our new Board Chair. Jay has served on the Board since April 2024 and brings considerable experience in community leadership and governance.

A very special thank-you to Kelli Moran, who has done a wonderful job as Acting Chair over the past 12 months. We really appreciate her commitment to BGT.

Electrical Apprenticeship | Mars Ballarat
Want to learn your trade inside a chocolate factory?
Now that’s an electrical apprenticeship!!

BGT is partnering with Mars Ballarat to find an Electrical Apprentice to commence in January 2027.

Behind all that chocolate is a serious manufacturing operation, packed with electrical systems, machinery and technology. Over three years, you’ll work alongside experienced electricians and technicians learning how to maintain, troubleshoot and keep it all running.

You’ll combine real experience on the job with your Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician) and plenty of support from both Mars and BGT along the way.

If you’re curious about how things work, keen to learn and looking for a genuinely interesting place to start your trade, take a look.

WHEN: Commencing January 2027

3rd Year Fitter & Turner Apprentice | John Valves

Two years down. Let’s find you the right place to finish your trade.
BGT is looking for a 3rd Year Fitter & Turner Apprentice to join John Valves in Ballarat.

This is proper hands-on workshop experience: machining, fitting and assembling components, working with lathes, milling machines and grinders, reading technical drawings and learning how to diagnose and repair mechanical equipment.

If you like precision, enjoy making things work as they should and want to keep learning from experienced tradespeople, this could be a very good next move.
You’ll continue working towards your Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical (Fitter & Turner) with BGT supporting you throughout the rest of your apprenticeship.

Fitter & Turner Apprenticeship | Mars Ballarat
Who keeps a chocolate factory running?
Well... someone has to.

BGT is partnering with Mars Ballarat to find their next Fitter & Turner Apprentice, commencing January 2027.

Over three years, you’ll work across different areas of the factory, learning about the machinery and mechanical systems that keep a major manufacturing operation moving.

This isn't an apprenticeship spent watching from the sidelines. You’ll get real experience on the tools, learn from experienced people and complete your Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical along the way.

If you’re mechanically minded, like figuring out how things work and would rather learn by actually getting stuck in, this could be the start of a very good career.
And yes, it just happens to be in a chocolate factory.

Already started your electrical apprenticeship? Let’s get you finished.
BGT is looking for a 2nd or 3rd Year Electrical Apprentice to join in Ballarat.

This one is for someone who already has some runs on the board, takes pride in doing a job properly and wants to keep building their skills alongside experienced electricians.

You’ll get plenty of hands-on experience across installation, maintenance and general electrical work while continuing towards your Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician).

You’ve already put in the hard yards. Now find the right place to finish what you started.

With Victoria gearing up for the AFL Grand Final public holiday, the BGT team will be taking a break too.

BGT Jobs & Training will be closed Friday 25 September, while Barkly Square will be closed to the public on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September.

Whether you’re glued to the footy, firing up the BBQ, escaping it all completely or just enjoying the bonus day off - have a cracking long weekend!

We’ll see you when we’re back.
