💡Fair Work Commission’s announcement at 10am today, confirmed increase to the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 💡

We just heard a collective sigh from every Payroll Manager in Australia.

New Minimum Wage Rates
▪️Hourly rate: $26.44 (up from $24.95) an increase of +$1.49 per hour
▪️Weekly rate: $1,004.90 (up from $948.00) an increase of + $56.90 per week
▪️Based on a 38-hour full-time work week

Payroll systems will need to be updated prior to the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026 & we suggest a few checks for Employers -

▫️Employment contracts & any Award updates or changes
▫️Apprentice & Trainee wages & entitlements
▫️National Employment Standard
▫️Annual Wage Forecasts
▫️Calculate the updated charge-out rates
▫️Review upcoming tenders to reflect any wage increases
▫️Check your payroll software is updated to reflect the changes

💡If you employ staff, this matters💡 The Fair Work Commission announces new minimum wage decision on June 2 at 10am.

Don’t risk getting it wrong & stay compliant, changes will take effect July 1 2026.

What is the minimum wage decision?
The Fair Work Commission (the Commission) is the national workplace relations tribunal. It is responsible for setting minimum wages. Each year, the Commission conducts the Annual Wage Review and reviews the National Minimum Wage.

A pay rate that applies to employees not covered by an award or registered agreement. Certain award or agreement free employees may have different pay entitlements depending on whether they have a reduced work capacity because of disability, if they're under the age of 21 or if they are an apprentice or trainee.

When is the decision?
The Commission will announce its decision at 10 am AEST on Tuesday 2 June 2026. You can also subscribe to annual wages reviews here

Is there paid Maternity (or Nanternity) Leave for Grandparents or Aunts & Uncles.

This would be a great post to share for April Fool's Day!

Whilst all new and doating grandparents would love to have a week or two off paid under Nanternity Leave, sorry - you'll have to take annual leave from work if you want to be paid.

A fun fact, while spell checking "doating" - Its meaning is "to love to an excessive or foolish degree". And that sounds about right for grandparents.

Why it's being made

The RTCCO has been made because there is fuel supply disruption in Australia caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Its purpose is to help road transport industry businesses and workers recover fuel costs.

It sets rules for fuel cost recovery for parties in a road transport contractual chain.
