RAW Stories | Meet Izzy

Ismail Ibrahim, known as Izzy, is a fourth-year plumbing apprentice who’s making the most of every opportunity.

Izzy decided to explore a trade, finding plumbing offered the right balance of theory and hands-on work. After hearing about RAW through classmates, he joined the team and hasn’t looked back.

With a passion for copper work and welding, he’s now expanding his skills into mechanical plumbing and looking forward to seeing where his trade takes him.

Along the way, Izzy hopes to inspire young people from similar backgrounds to give a trade a go, put in the work and back themselves.

RAW Stories | Meet Kye Hughes

A proud Anangu man, Kye recently completed his Certificate IV in Project Management through a RAW GTO traineeship, gaining hands-on experience with host employer - Tram Grade Separation Project Alliance.

His work on the project involved three grade separations across Adelaide’s tram network. He is now building on that experience with Bardavcol Pty Ltd on the Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade, which includes a new bridge span and surrounding service upgrades.

With support from RAW GTO mentors and the team at Bardavcol, Kye continues to develop his skills and work towards his career goals. He sees a long future in construction, with ambitions to step into a project management role and help lead major infrastructure projects.

Outside of work, Kye is a keen sports fan who enjoys both playing and watching sport, although these days, it’s mostly watching!

Congratulations on completing your qualification, Kye. RAW is proud to support your journey and looks forward to seeing where it takes you.

3rd-year Female Plumbing Apprentice with RAW GTO.

Chloe made the move into plumbing to pursue a licensed trade, and hasn’t looked back. Through her apprenticeship, she has gained hands-on experience across major projects, while developing a passion for sanitary drainage and copper work.

Chloe shares what it’s like to enter a male-dominated industry, the support she has received from RAW GTO and her host employer, Plumbing and Drainage, and how her apprenticeship has helped build her skills, confidence and independence.

Connect brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, industry, government and corporate Australia to build relationships, create opportunities and celebrate the strength of the Indigenous business sector.

It was great to see the innovation on display, while also having the opportunity to share RAW Group’s approach to creating sustainable employment, training and like-minded business partnerships that deliver meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal people and communities.

RAW Group's GTO division is excited to announce that four of our apprentices have been nominated for awards at the upcoming Master Plumbers Australia Excellence Awards.

A huge congratulations to our nominees:

Isabella Whelan (Rose Curtis Award) honours the outstanding achievements of women in the plumbing industry, recognising excellence, leadership, and dedication to the trade.

Hazel Bursic and Dylan Smith (Mechanical Services Award) recognising top-performing plumbing apprentices specialising in mechanical services.

Jeremy Wall (Most Outstanding 3rd Year Apprentice in General Plumbing Award) - recognises high-performing third-year apprentices who demonstrate exceptional technical skill, dedication, and leadership in the general plumbing field

RAW GTO is incredibly proud of our apprentices for being recognised at this level and we look forward to attending the award night on Friday 28 August at Zinc, Federation Square where winners will be announced.

At RAW Personnel, we're proud to support the Australian and South Australian governments’ River Torrens to Darlington Project (T2D) by creating opportunities that help people build meaningful careers while contributing to one of South Australia's largest infrastructure projects.

One such success story is Cassandra Flanagan, employed through RAW Personnel in a Finance Administration role on the T2D Project, where she supports critical Project operations and continues to build her skills within the construction industry.

We're also proud to see RAW Personnel team members like Kiarra Dickie developing valuable experience in Project administration and document control where she plays a valuable role in keeping project information accurate and accessible.

Stories like Cassandra's and Kiarra's demonstrate the value of providing real workplace opportunities that enable people to gain hands-on experience, build confidence and develop long-term careers in major infrastructure projects.

The T2D Project is South Australia's largest infrastructure project and will create a non-stop South Road between Gawler and Old Noarlunga. Drivers will bypass 21 sets of traffic lights between the River Torrens and Darlington as they travel through two separate tunnels, connected by an open motorway.

RAW Group's Personnel and GTO teams have had a busy few weeks out in the community, engaging with future jobseekers, students and industry.

We received great interest from participants attending atWork Australia's First Steps to Success event and the Mark Oliphant College Careers Expo, where we provided inspiration for their future careers, as well as our mentoring and support mechanisms that enable success.

RAW Personnel was also delighted to partner and volunteer at the Clontarf Foundation's Southern Cup - a great initiative that celebrates some of South Australia's most talented young Aboriginal footballers and emphasises State of Origin selection based on school attendance and community engagement.

Thank you to all the industry partners and employment providers for your involvement across these events.

Great to see the impact of strong partnerships in action at the Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade Project.

Recently, TJ, General Manager of RAW Personnel, and Kym Smith, Aboriginal Workforce Participation Coordinator, visited site to catch up with Nikki Jackson and Daniel Kranixfeld, Operations Manager at Bardavcol Pty Ltd, and see firsthand the outstanding work being delivered on this significant infrastructure project.

The Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade is a major project that will improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support the region's growing population. It’s also creating valuable opportunities for workforce development and career growth.

A fantastic example of this is Nikki Jackson, a proud Ngarrindjeri and Narungga woman, who has been employed through RAW Personnel as a Site Clerk with Bardavcol. Since joining the project, Nikki has become a valued member of the team, gaining hands-on experience within the civil construction industry and continuing to build skills that will support her future career aspirations.

A special mention to Daniel Kranixfeld, whose leadership, mentorship, and commitment to developing people have played a key role in Nikki’s growth and success on site. The support Bardavcol continues to provide demonstrates the value of investing in people and creating pathways for long-term career development.

We’re proud to see what can be achieved when like-minded organisations work together to create meaningful employment opportunities and support the next generation of industry professionals.
