If you are a candidate considering relocating to Abu Dhabi for a private household role - or a Principal looking to bring a trusted member of staff with you - here is what the process actually involves.

Relocation takes longer than most people plan for. Between offer, visa application, medical screening and Emirates ID processing, you should build four to six weeks into your timeline as a minimum. Roles that require a start date within two weeks of offer are almost always filled by candidates already in the country.

The cost of living requires careful planning. Abu Dhabi is an expensive city. Accommodation, transport, healthcare and schooling (if relevant) need to be factored into any package negotiation. A live-out salary that looks competitive in isolation may not account for the reality of day-to-day living costs.

Cultural adjustment is real and worth acknowledging. Abu Dhabi is a welcoming, internationally diverse city. But it operates by different social and professional norms. Candidates who research this before they arrive and who approach the adjustment with genuine curiosity rather than resistance, settle faster and perform better.

There are things about placing household staff in Abu Dhabi that no job description will ever capture.

The first is pace. Private households in the Gulf can move from brief to offer in days when the right candidate appears. The families we work with are decisive. They know what they want. When they see it, they act.

That means candidates need to be genuinely ready - not just available in theory, but prepared, referenced and ready to move.
