Hands of Hope in Cape Town This projects is about turning hands to honest work to break the cycle of crime/punishment and give encouragement and hope for a better future.

ABOUT THE HANDS OF HOPE PROJECT
Hope Prison Ministry was started by Jonathan and Jenny Clayton twenty five years ago and the Hands of Hope sewing project is just one of their many initiatives started under the auspices of this organisation. INITIATIVE
The project is led by Hansie Elcock, who through working with ladies inside the prison realised the difficulty ex-offenders faced when trying to get

employment, and started a job-creation initiative to help break the cycle of crime

PROBLEM
On leaving prison, ex-offenders face the daunting process of trying to regain the trust of family and to convince employers to give them a chance. Often, this proves to be insurmountable. SOLUTION
Having a job (or some work experience) gives people a sense of self worth and purpose. Conversely, unemployment leads to repeat offending and hopelessness. WHAT WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE
We help to break the cycle of crime by giving ex-offenders a way to use their hands for good
