FACTORY & OPERATIONS MANAGER - Knysna, Garden Route

The Role:
Experienced Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations for custom and production-line to lead cross-functional teams spanning chassis prep,
cabinetry/carpentry, 12V/240V electrical systems, plumbing, body fitment, quality assurance, and final delivery.
Primary mandate is ensuring production targets are met on time, within budget, and to strict automotive and residential safety compliance standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESS & CORE SKILLS:
1. Operations & Assembly Management
• Operations Leadership: Manage the entire manufacturing
process, including production, quality control, supply chain,
maintenace and engineering.
• FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY : Own the P&L (profit and loss),
Manager operating budgets, and reduce costs without
lowering product quality.
• Process Improvement: Use Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma
methods to remove delays and increase output.
• Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict health and safety rules
and meet all local laws and industry standards.
• Team Management: Hire, train, and mentor department heads
and factory staff to build a high-performing culture.
• Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop
the team. Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and high
performance.
• Monitor daily plant output, balancing line capacity to
monthly build schedules.
2.QUALITY CONTROL & Safety Compliance
• Enforce rigorous quality checks that meets with industry
standards
• Ensure full compliance with safety standards, registration
guidelines, and electrical/gas safety certifications.
3. Supply Chain & Inventory Coordination
• Partner with procurement to manage long-lead components -
chassis supply, appliances, specialized fiberglass panels,
solar/battery systems).
• Prevent production halts through accurate material
requirements planning (MRP) and inventory tracking.
4. TEAM LEADERSHIP & Workforce Management
• Lead floor supervisors, team leads, tradespeople (electricians,
joiners, welders), and assembly technicians.
• Foster a zero-harm safety culture, ensuring compliance.
• Conduct skill assessments, cross-training programs,
and performance appraisals to retain top talent.
5. FINANCIA & Resource Planning
• Control plant operational expenditure (OpEx)
Evaluate and justify capital expenditure (CapEx) for plant upgrades, specialized tooling, or automated machinery (e.g., CNC routers for cabinet shop).
QUALIFICATIONS & Skills Profile
Category Requirements:
Experience 5–10 years factory management as well as operations and manufacturing within RV, commercial vehicle, marine, or modular construction.
Technical Knowledge Deep understanding of 12V DC/240V AC power systems, automotive body design, RV gas/plumbing standards, and cabinetry/CNC operations.
Methodologies Proven track record with high-variability manufacturing.
Education
A Bachelor's degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management,
or equivalent trade-leadership experience will be an added advantage.
