Last week, our Community Manager met the Maritzburg College 5th formers ahead of their Work Experience Week (21 - 23 September).

Together, they drafted their first CV and discussed what a CV is and what it is not. How it evolves and how to make it stand out. We also introduced them to College Connect as their professional community once they have Matriculated.

That was AWESOME! Thank you, John Watson (The Lekker Network). 👏
Every Maritzburg College Old Boys Association (MCOBA) should have been here for this one. Our network is so powerful and is worth millions of ZARS. Knowing how to navigate it will change your trajectory.

Some nuggets of wisdom from the session that speak directly to the College Connect Community:
🔴 Build relationships - the transactions come later.
⚫ Invest in quality connections over quantity - look after those you have.
⚪ Ask better questions and listen to add value/assist rather than to respond.
🔴 Talk less. Listen more.
⚫ Show up regularly - that's when you start seeing the results. Networking isn't a once-off effort.
⚪ KNOW your value: Time, talent or ties. We can all offer one of these.
🔴 Change your mindset to How Can I help VS. What Can I Gain.
⚫ People invest in other people so be lekker, always.

Showing up to Learning Lunch webinars, engaging on our WhatsApp group and attending events is how you'll make yourself known in this community. Keep is consistent. Keep adding value.
