As work zones increase across the country this spring and summer, one message matters more than ever.

People Aren’t Cones℠. They can’t be replaced.

Behind the hard hats and high-visibility yellow safety vests are real people with families, hobbies, and lives beyond the roadway. As motorists, we have a responsibility to keep them safe.

When you’re behind the wheel, stay alert and slow down when you see yellow. Our crews wear high-visibility yellow so they stand apart from orange traffic control devices like cones, barrels, and signs.

Orange marks the work zone. Yellow marks the worker.

The habits new drivers build today will stay with them for life.

National Youth Traffic Safety Month is a timely reminder that conversations about safe driving matter, especially for teen drivers.

Work zones present unique challenges that may not always be experienced during driver training. That’s why it’s important for parents, grandparents, mentors, and caregivers to take time to help new drivers understand how to prepare for and safely navigate these environments, where conditions can change quickly and real people are working just feet from moving traffic.

Here are a few important reminders to pass on:

🔶 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗲. Work zones can appear anywhere, including neighborhoods, rural roads, and daily routes.

📵 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Phones, in-vehicle technology, and even conversations can take attention off the road.

🚗 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Give yourself time to react to sudden stops or changing traffic patterns.

🟨 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. These signal an active or changing work zone.

🧡 𝗕𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁. Aggressive driving puts everyone at risk.

In work zones, cones don’t get hurt. People do. Every decision behind the wheel matters. Slow down, stay alert, and protect the people working to keep our communities moving.

As the weather warms up across much of the country, the traffic looks a bit different as more cyclists and motorcycle riders take the road.

This change requires us all to stay alert and do our part to keep the roads safe for everyone. When you get behind the wheel, remember to:

🚗 Check mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing lanes or turning
🚴‍♂️ Give riders extra space
⚠️ Be especially cautious at dawn, dusk, and nighttime when visibility is low
📵 Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road

By working together, we can share the road responsibly and protect our communities!

Recently, the Flagger Force team had a blast at the Junior League of Raleigh’s Touch-A-Truck®! 🛻 🚧

This was a hands-on, family-friendly event that gave kids the chance to explore the vehicles that help build, serve, and protect their community. We were proud to be part of the experience.

Big thanks to the Junior League of Raleigh for hosting such a fun event. We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with the communities we serve and share how Flagger Force helps keep work zones safe!

It’s National Hurricane Preparedness Week and the most important step you can take is to prepare before a storm is in the forecast. 🌀 Planning ahead helps better protect you and your family and reduces traffic on the roads when conditions are at their worst.

Whether you live in a hurricane-prone area or could be impacted by severe storms, follow this checklist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and take action today:

✔️ Develop an evacuation plan
✔️ Assemble disaster supplies including non-perishable food, water, and medicine
✔️ Ensure insurance policies are up-to-date and document possessions
✔️ Strengthen your home by trimming trees, installing storm shutters, and sealing outside wall openings

These precautionary steps can be lifesaving. Prepare now to stay safe when a storm strikes.

National Work Zone Awareness Week 2026 was filled with action driven by purpose! During the annual campaign, our team was proud to:

🚧 Host a kickoff event in Tampa, Florida
🚧 Support regional events in Maryland and North Carolina
🚧 Participate in live news interviews in Central Pennsylvania
🚧 Collaborate with trade media publications

Through all these efforts, one message remained front and center. People Aren’t Cones℠. They can’t be replaced. In every work zone, there are real people who rely on drivers to make safe, attentive decisions behind the wheel.

While NWZAW may be behind us, the message doesn’t start or stop with a single week. It’s a year-round commitment to protecting our crews, supporting our clients, and helping ensure the communities we serve stay safe and moving.

Thank you to our employees, clients, and industry partners for helping us amplify this important message during NWZAW and throughout the entire year.

This week showed the power of collaboration. Take a look at the full recap ➡️ https://bit.ly/4t7n6VU.

Keeping people safe in work zones takes commitment all 52 weeks of the year.

Recently, our President & CEO, Mike Doner, and VP of Risk & Safety, Luke Lazar, sat down with Roads & Bridges to discuss what it takes to improve work zone safety, from high-level strategy to on-the-ground realities.

From the importance of behavior change behind the wheel and ensuring crews are visible in all conditions, to the role operational discipline and technology play in creating safer work zones, the conversation reinforces a simple truth: protecting roadway workers takes all of us.

People Aren’t Cones℠. They can’t be replaced.

The choices we make as businesses, safety leaders, elected officials, law enforcement, and community members determine if the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends working on and near our roadways every day make it home safely.
