Hands-on learning. Strong partnerships. A growing marine workforce.

OMTA’s Marielena Maggio recently visited Marine Trades Institute in Cedarville, Michigan, to see its hands-on training in action and connect with the educators helping shape Ohio’s upcoming Marine Technician Program.

MTI has been an essential partner in developing the 15-week program, which is on track to launch in January 2027. Together with our Ohio partners, we’re preparing future technicians with practical marine service skills and climate-ready practices to support Ohio’s marine industry and Lake Erie communities.

For the past 24 years, Senator Tom Patton has hosted the Tom Patton Classic (TPC) Golf Outing, bringing together state and local legislators, business owners, attorneys, medical professionals, union representatives, community leaders, and longtime friends.

Throughout his years of public service as both an Ohio State Representative and State Senator, Senator Patton has remained a strong supporter of Ohio’s recreational boating and marine industry and the issues important to our businesses and communities. OMTA has supported his efforts through participation in this annual fundraising event.

The Tom Patton Classic also provides OMTA with a valuable opportunity to connect with legislators and their staff in a more casual setting. The combination of golf, networking, and informal conversation creates an environment where we can build relationships, discuss issues affecting the marine industry, and share OMTA’s priorities outside of the traditional legislative setting.
