Dr. Martin Luther King was both a man of his time and one for the ages. He served as a catalyst for long overdue change to ensure all citizens enjoy the blessings of freedom, justice and equality. From the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington in 1963 where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech to the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965 and the Memphis Sanitation Strike in 1968, Dr. King dedicated his life to fighting racial inequality, advancing civil rights and implementing social change.

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday in January. Each year we honor his life, legacy and shine a light on his achievements and commitment to public service. The MLK holiday, perhaps more than any other, asks us to look within ourselves and reflect on the ideas we hold dear.

The CEO of Heroes Place and the Board of Directors take the spirit of Dr. King further on MLK Day by volunteering in our community. However you spend the day, take a moment to think about Dr. King and the many other brave civil rights warriors who risked and lost their lives to move America closer to fulfilling its founding vision and uphold the truth that all men (and women) are created equal.

As the holiday season reaches its height this week, it is easy to get caught up in all the shopping, cooking, decorating and travelling we have left to do. However, now more than ever, it is important to pause for a moment and reflect on the all the things and people we value in our lives.

At Heroes Place, we are grateful for our nation's veterans and service members, especially the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines currently deployed all over the world. We thank you for your service and remember the sacrifices you have made so we can freely celebrate the season at home with our families.

As 2019 draws to a close we reflect with gratitude on all the veterans we have been honored to serve. We look forward to continuing our service to veterans in 2020.

To all veterans, service members and their families, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season.

Memorial Day Observance 2017

On Memorial Day, our country recognizes the more than one million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out their duties in our armed forces. It is a day to honor the memory of our brave women and men in uniform who dedicated their lives to training tirelessly, serving selfessly, and dying to protect our freedoms.

This Memorial Day some of you will spend time with loved ones and friends; others will visit cemeteries and memorials. I encourage everyone to take time to reflect on the sacrifices our service members and their families have accepted-and continue to accept-on our behalf. Keep them in your thoughts and let us not lose vision of the freedoms their sacrifices preserved.

This Veterans Day, we honor the men and women who have served in uniform. We remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we recognize our family members and friends who have served our nation at home and abroad. We owe them all a debt of gratitude.

Today, there are an estimated 22 million military veterans in the United States who come from every corner of the country and from all walks of life.

On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors at Heroes Place, Inc., I thank the veterans who have served our nation in the armed forces and those who continue to serve.
