Nobody handed me permission for this. For years I read the room and quietly shrank to fit it, sure that taking up space would cost me something. It did not. 

If anything the room adjusted, and the work got better once I stopped spending energy managing how small I looked. 
We will cheer for the woman on screen who finally takes up space.

You are allowed to take up the room you are already standing in.
