So I did a thing... I recently obtained my national certification in mental performance coaching. Why you ask?
Over the last several years, I began to be very inquisitive as to why some players excelled and why some failed at the next level. They all came from the best clubs, represented the best leagues, and from some of the best environments. They were all extremely skilled, technically and tactically, and were incredible athletes. On paper, they had all the necessary ingredients to be successful student-athletes and future pros. So why do some fail and don’t achieve what they are capable of and what they desire to be? The difference was their mental skill set, their mental toughness. So why are players coming to college not mentally prepared? The answer is really simple, few coaches are effectively teaching their young players how to develop their mental game and toughness. Many just assume that the competitive level or the game will teach this naturally. Or they think by “getting on the line” will do the trick. Or they assume that players are just born tough. Not true at all.
The mental game (mental toughness, resiliency, confidence, etc.) can be developed, just like any part of a player’s game. It is not something that players are just born with. This belief spurred me to obtain my national certification in mental performance coaching. I am passionate about helping athletes, teams, clubs, and coaches grow their mental game by developing proactive confidence, mental resiliency, focus/concentration, trust, and competitive composure so that each can accomplish their athletic performance and life goals!
I also joined the skilled clinicians and coaches Focus Therapy & Performance Coaching.
