🌊 STEM Fact of the Week
This week’s STEM Fact celebrates World Oceans Day!
💡 Did you know? The ocean produces at least 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorbs around 30% of global carbon emissions, making it one of the most important systems for sustaining life and regulating Earth’s climate.
Observed every year on June 8, World Oceans Day was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the critical role oceans play in our daily lives and to inspire action to protect them. The ocean is essential to life on Earth, providing oxygen, supporting food systems, and sustaining economies and communities worldwide.
From regulating climate to driving natural cycles, the ocean is a cornerstone of environmental science and global sustainability. Yet, it remains one of the most complex and least understood systems on Earth.
This day is a reminder that protecting our oceans is not only an environmental priority, but also a STEM-driven challenge—requiring innovation in climate science, conservation, and sustainable technology.
