The First-Year Culinary Students represented Central Carolina Community College at the NC Community College System Conference's Culinary reception! We may not have been as "showy" as the other schools, but we had a very favorable response to our offerings of Butternut Squash Soup and Mediterranean Chickpea Salad with roasted butternut squash from The Student Farm at CCCC. We had the only Vegan and Gluten Free options!

CCCC Culinary Arts in Pittsboro is serving lunch on both Tuesday and Wednesday, October 20 and 21st from noon to 1pm only. Tuesday we are featuring some German favorites while Wednesday is a bit more Indian-inspired. These lunches are prepared by the current culinary students on the Pittsboro campus and are on a first come, first served basis. Our menus are always subject to change due to the fact that this is a teaching kitchen and mistakes happen. We take cash, cards, and digital wallets like Apple Pay or Google Wallet.

The Central Carolina Community College Culinary Arts Department had their First Annual Fall Culinary Showcase on the Pittsboro Main Campus on Wednesday, October 7th. The event had a Mad Hatter Tea Party theme with decorations, costumes and music setting the stage for a fun experience all around. It was a raging success, and about 120 folks showed up to support the students and taste all of the yummy offerings. Each student was responsible for preparing at least one dish and serving it, along with explanations of their methods, ingredients and inspirations, to all the folks who were lined up to sample them. The comments were favorable and people seemed to have a great time. The Culinary Arts Department has traditionally had this Culinary Showcase event in the Spring Semester in Sanford, but they thought Pittsboro deserved a treat because there are so many faithful lunch participants when the Café is serving. They were delighted to have executed this successful Showcase locally! One group of ladies even showed up in festive attire to celebrate a birthday!

The CCCC Natural Chef Café is student run and serves only a couple of days per week in the Fall Semester and once weekly with occasional pop-ups in the Spring. Unfortunately, they aren’t a traditional Café – they don’t serve coffee, and are closed most of the time, but when they are open they love to see folks from the tight-knit community here offering validation for the hard work it takes to create these culinary chefs-d'oeuvre. The Community support is what keeps the place running, and they hope to encourage more folks to come to lunches and occasional special events like their Chef’s Table Dinners. Wednesday evening will be our Thai Style Chef’s Table Dinner al fresco on the Covered Patio in Chatham – the weather should be ideal for the folks who reserved their seats. If you missed out, please consider coming to a future Chef’s Table – we have two more (tentatively) scheduled for the semester on October 21st and November 4th, both are on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm, themes still to be determined.
