Doing work for free isn't loyalty. It's a subsidy.
Today we published Get Her Hired's first research paper. 107 senior women in our network took our AI-Proof Score quiz this summer, 81% director level and up or running their own firms. To all 107 of you, thank you.
We asked one question that changed everything:
Do the people around you know what you do?
Some said yes. People know what I do. Others said, "People feel my work, but they don't name it." Both groups do work AI can't easily take, and their work is almost the same. But half of the first group said they weren't worried about AI. Only 29% of the second group said that.
Same work. Half as sure.
The work isn't the problem. The record is. No review has a box for the VP you got to agree, or the crisis you stopped in March. So it gets counted as free. We call that deniable work.
And AI is making the unpaid part of your job bigger, because it takes the easy-to-see work first.
Once you can name your deniable work, you have three choices: 1. Name it and get it read. 2. Price it and get it paid. 3. Or put it down.
Loyalty goes both ways. A subsidy only goes one.
