The Coast Guard could see $14.6 billion in new cutters as part of a massive supplemental that could almost double the service’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget, according to the text of the reconciliation bill reviewed by USNI News. Included in the Republican-led funding proposal is money for almost 30 new cutters ranging in size from the 154-foot Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutter to the 460-foot Polar Security Cutter, according to a source familiar with the proposed buy. The House and Senate Armed Services Committees want to pour billions into shipbuilding — including $1.8 billion for eight landing ships medium and $4.9 billion for unmanned vessels — as part of the Republican-led reconciliation bill’s $150 billion defense package, released Sunday. The wide-ranging $33.8 billion shipbuilding portion of the defense measure includes $20.3 billion for 16 battle force ships, namely: The ships are: Two Flight III Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyers for $5.4 billion. Xenos Marine Takes Aim at the Gulf Salvage, Decommissioning Markets
While Xenos Marine is a relatively new name in the Gulf of America salvage and decommissioning market, it’s a new name with some familiar faces. Matt Fish, MD, Xenos Marine has partnered with Kevin Teichman and T&T Salvage to tackle the growing need for offshore structure decommissioning work. The workhorse of the fleet will be the recently reinvigorated TX-10000, a unique heavy lift asset that was originally built as the VB 10000 for Versabar, and participated for more than a year in one of the country’s largest and most challenging salvage projects ever: the cutting apart and raising of the Golden Ray, a nearly 700-ft. long car carrier that flipped in the St. Simons Sound near Georgia's Port of Brunswick in September 2019.
