PHILLY BUSINESS WORKS WITH VETERANS IN TRANSITIONING TO NEW CAREER
DOYLESTOWN, PA (July 1, 2014) – As we celebrate the anniversary of the Independence of our nation this weekend, the 4th of July is a great time to reflect on the freedoms our great nation enjoys while also remembering those who have sacrificed to protect those freedoms. As the country closes the War in Afghanistan and moves to the new smaller force structure, more and more men and women are transitioning from their camouflage uniform and combat boots into suits in the corporate world. Patriot Connections, a Pennsylvania-based company, is helping to close the gap between service members looking for new career opportunities and companies looking for high potential employees.
William Hyndman knows what it is like to transition from the military to the corporate world. After serving 12 years in the Army as a UH-60L Blackhawk pilot, Hyndman transitioned out of the service into a successful career as a civilian, working first for Comcast and then for the Brickman Group. Knowing the potential that service members have along with the challenges veterans face as they transition, Hyndman started Patriot Connections (PC), a recruiting firm which connects military veterans transitioning from the armed services into suitable jobs in the corporate world. Hyndman, a native of Philadelphia, focuses his work across the country, but lives and runs Patriot Connections out of PA.
PC does not just place veterans into new jobs; it works to be the liaison between the company and the veteran. PC takes the time to get to know its veterans as well as the companies and positions to be filled in order to find the best match possible.
Unlike other job placement agencies, Patriot Connections works with veterans from the beginning of their job search to aid with self-discovery, resume building, interview preparation, and numerous other ways of transition assistance. What sets them apart from other companies who act as job placement agencies for the military is that once PC places the veteran into a job, they continue to stay on as a coach, helping during onboarding and through the entire transition process.
“The military changed me as a person. It helped me develop confidence and leadership. I want to introduce other talented members of the military into the business world, “Hyndman said. “I want to be able to introduce high-level leaders who can fully reach their capabilities. I am doing something where I can help people.”
Hyndman says that those looking to transition from the military should start thinking about their options as far out as they can. Hyndman says that due to the structure and pace of military jobs, those who come to him often are not sure what they want to do. He helps them work through that process. Hyndman works with clients he met through referrals, career fairs, and military transition counselors. People can also contact Hyndman through the Patriot Connections website.
Hyndman was raised in Philadelphia and though he served numerous places around the world, coming back to the Philly area was like coming home. He is proud to be operating his own business in the area. Hyndman graduated Magna cm Laude and as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Richmond where he played on the Division I golf team. He is a member of the Germantown Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, a church Elder and VP of Finance at the Forest Grove Presbyterian Church. Hyndman is married and has two sons and lives in Bucks County, Pa.
