The duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Hyperbaric chamber duties: Performs hyperbaric chamber crew chief, chamber operator and inside attendant duties.
• Have a working knowledge of and be able to troubleshoot issues with the atmosphere conditions system, gas farm, chamber lighting system, nitrogen services, patient monitoring system (cameras), potable water and chamber toilet, chamber oxygen monitoring, patient entertainment system, pressurization and depressurizations systems, fire suppression system chamber gas analysis system, mask breathing system, and automatic chamber control system.
• Build, inspect, and maintain hyperbaric dive masks/hoods.
• Develop working knowledge of emergency hyperbaric procedures.
• Prepare documents, turns in and tracks equipment in need of repair.
• Prepare, issue and maintain file copy of temporary hand receipts for borrowed equipment.
• Prepare and maintain hyperbaric diver files.
• Once fully trained, conducts training for hyperbaric divers.
• Conduct training for chamber crew positions (Chamber Operator, Crew Chief, and Inside Attendant).
• Chamber operator duties include start-up, shut-down, and running the chamber. Chamber operator monitors patient’s conditions during hyperbaric treatment dive and coordinates care with the inside attendant and hyperbaric physician.
• Crew Chief assists the chamber operator during routine operations, and also assists the chamber operator in the event of problems. Troubleshoots and corrects problems during the dive and between dives as necessary.
• The inside attendant must meet and maintain standards for hyperbaric chamber duty IAW AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, para 6.48.5., as determined by a USAF flight surgeon; must not be in a "duties not involving diving" status for longer than 90 days. The exception to this standard is pregnancy. The inside attendant will be certified with a minimum of three supervised training hyperbaric dives.
• The technician should be expected to act as inside attendant at least once per week, depending upon patient chambers.
• Inside attendant is inside the chamber during the treatment dive and monitors patients throughout the dive. The attendant will assist patients with equalizing pressure in their ears during the pressurization and depressurization. The attendant will assist with loading, unloading and positioning of patients in the chamber.
• Attaches wound vacuum during dive, monitors glucose if necessary.
• Prepares the procedure room/equipment, gathers and/or furnishes supplies, in an efficient and timely manner, properly prepares and positions the patient and effectively assists providers in performing procedures.
• Directly performs or assists in the performance of a number of specialized minor nursing procedures, including, but not limited to minor wound debridement and dressing changes.
• Prepares the procedure room and medical equipment for the procedure to be performed. Receives the patient and reviews his or her medical history.
• Uses the nursing process and participates in making nursing assessments. Prepares and positions patient for the procedure and monitors vital signs.
• Closely monitors the patient’s condition throughout the procedure and reports and/or notes changes in patient’s vital signs, symptoms, and general physical and emotional condition for inclusion in the patient care plan.
• Performs procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), urinary catheterizations, and suctioning of trachea.
• Documents the procedure in the patient’s chart, hard copy or digital, as required.
• Monitors and evaluates patient response during exams, procedures, and treatments.
• Collects and labels, urine, sputum, blood, and stool specimens.
• Obtains wound and other cultures. Inserts and drains in-dwelling catheters, removes sutures, irrigates wounds, and performs venipunctures.
• Adheres to established aseptic procedures to protect self, other staff members and patients from unnecessary exposure to infectious agents.
• Cleans and prepares equipment for sterilization.
• Disposes of infectious and hazardous waste materials in accordance with established procedure.
• Assists in patient treatment process and disposition. Coordinates with medical and maintenance personnel on chamber equipment configuration and modification and patient hyperbaric treatment and hyperbaric research.
• Calculates dosages and administers medications by oral, topical, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes.
• Initiates intravenous fluids to include saline locks and monitors, regulates, and discontinues their usage.
• Observes and promptly notifies nurse and/or physician of adverse physical and emotional reactions to medications. Exercises control over pharmaceuticals.
• Documents administration of medications in accordance with established charting procedures.
• Recognizes the nature of emergencies and provides first aid in accordance with emergency protocols.
• Initiates and maintains cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) measures if first on the scene until additional responders arrive.
• Conducts patient and family teaching. Teaches patients and family members how patients should perform simple tests for themselves, e.g., blood sugar, hypertension or urine. Informs patients and family members about self-care. Reinforces and reiterates instruction previously presented by the physician or nurse. Provides input for patient care planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Completion of an LVN/LPN program.
* Experience: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with a minimum of 24 months clinical experience within the past 36 months. Experience in hyperbaric medicine and wound care is desirable, but not required.
* License/Certification: 1) Active, unrestricted LPN/LVN license from any state. 2) Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) certification from National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) within 6 months of hire. **Note: Cost of Hyperbaric Certification and training course is paid by ERP.

* Physical: Must undergo a physical meeting USAF dive standards, followed by a hyperbaric chamber pressure test.

* Life Support Certification: Possess a current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

* Annual CME Stipend!

Pay: $35 per hour

Schedule:
Work schedule shall be between the hours of 0700 – 1600 or 0730 -1630 Monday – Friday, department discretion, to include a one-hour uncompensated meal break as determined by the clinical department.

Specific Mammography Tech Duties at Travis AFB: The duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Operates X-ray equipment to produce diagnostic images and assists radiologist or physician with special procedures. Prepares equipment and patients for screening, diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures. Performs technical and administrative mammography activities. Uses health protective measures such as universal precautions and radiation protection measures.
• Performs administrative and front desk duties to include receiving patients and imaging requests, scheduling, and explaining methods of examination in person and over the telephone. Assesses patient clinical history to determine the most effective protocols. Consults with referring physicians and technicians as necessary to obtain information regarding patient’s examination. Utilizes hospital information systems.
• Receives patients, explain procedures, and provide appropriate care. Determines if any special patient preparation is required. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination.
• Operates mammography units to include stereotactic, breast biopsy and tomosynthesis units.
• Determines proper instrument technical factors and control settings to ensure correct calculated exposure of targeted body parts. Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms to include spot compressions, magnification views, and any other views requested by the radiologist when necessary. Sets up room and trays using sterile/aseptic techniques and assists radiologists with needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures. Performs all mammography examinations according to department protocols.
• Identifies abnormalities and determine need for additional mammography views per department protocol (either before or after consulting with department radiologists). Notifies physician of significant exams requiring immediate attention.
• Makes minor adjustments on equipment. Differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment.
• Utilizes the hospital information system and Picture Archiving Computer System (PACS) to acquire, transmit and store examinations
• Images to be read remotely will be transmitted by the technologist, according to department policies, utilizing PACS.
• Practices safety principles. Performs two patient identifier verification of patients. Assists with consent procedures prior to exams requiring written consent from patients. Safely oversees, and brings to practice, As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles for patients and staff. Performs equipment quality control checks. Monitors personnel to ensure protective procedures such as radiation safety, hazardous material communications, and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health programs are followed. Performs tests on radiation protection equipment. Assesses staff competence, and monitors appropriateness of care and completeness of examination requests.
• Ensures a summary of the results of the mammographic examination are written in lay terms and is sent to patients within established guidelines.
• Assists with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) program. Conducts daily QC and periodic quality assurance tests of various equipment and reports and documents findings in accordance with local and AF policy, Food and Drug Administration and American College of Radiology guidelines. Performs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual quality control inspections on all mammography units and processors. Perform daily warm ups of all mammography units. Maintains mammography files and retrieves and/or hangs films for comparison.
• Helps maintain pathological results from biopsies through mammography tracking system to further assess mammographic quality for retrospective review and analysis.
• Helps maintain records documenting initial and continuing qualifications of all personnel who have performed or are performing the duties of interpreting physician, radiological technologist, or medical physicist, and all employees assigned to quality assurance tasks for the facility. Operates and helps maintain radiographic equipment, mammography exam tracking system, and CHCS database.
• Maintains and cleans mammography units, processors, and cassettes on a regular basis in accordance with Radiology department, Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) standards. Stocks and maintains an adequate level of supplies required for mammography exams and procedures. Recommends necessary monthly repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
• As needed, assists with student training activities IAW with regulation and course director plans; may instruct new personnel and other staff in the performance of Mammography and all other pertinent aspects in providing diagnostic quality care.
• Attends and participates in all meetings, staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities as required by the supervisor.
• Recognizes the need for and institute necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Core Mammography Tech Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services as appropriate to the TO.
• Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures.
• Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.
• Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
• Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists.
• Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy.
• As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.
• Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call log book.
• Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
* Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a radiologic technologist or in mammography or required performance of 200 exams within the last two (2) years.
* Additional Required Knowledge: 1) Knowledge of the Medical Reporting System (MRS). 2) Must be knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology such as the location, appearance, and function of the various systems including breast issue, lymph nodes, etc., in order to interpret the examination request accurately, to understand the functioning and interrelationship of the various organs appearing on the film and the various stages of the examinations; for example, the more common abnormalities of veins and arteries, calcium deposits in the breasts, etc., in order to recognize the conditions, ensure that the radiographic studies properly illustrate the condition, and adjusts positioning technical factors or other variables to better illustrate them if necessary; medical terminology and ethics; legal aspects of medicine; healthcare accreditation standards including MQSA, ACR and FDA, Mammography Quality Assurance procedures; Mammography reporting procedures; radiation physics, radiobiology, and radiation protection; basic electronics theory; techniques of operating radiographic and specialized diagnostic imaging equipment; radiographic positioning; patient care and monitoring techniques; image recording media and processing techniques; quality control procedures; infection control; aseptic and sterile techniques; reactions to contrast media; BLS; methods of recording the image; and medical records administration.
* Clinical Certification: ARRT certified in Mammography.
* Life Support Certification: Possess and maintain a current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
