I love to sew, crochet, paint, write, draw, read and cook. You could say I like to create just about anything. I'm a self-identified NERD, with a whole slew of fandoms in my arsenal. I'm a Whovian/Hogwarts student/Browncoat/Jedi/Street Fighter/Lego enthusiast. I love going to conventions and surrounding myself with fellow fans of whatever craze I'm participating in that day. How did my shop start,
you say? I didn't learn to sew until I was 22, though as a kid I always loved to imagine and draw new fashions. From there, I became the official seamstress for a living history reenactment group based on King Henry VIII's court and wives. I spent three years sewing garb for an ever-growing group of people, and picked up a lot of skills along the way. After I parted ways with the group, I kept sewing, though mostly small items for friends. It wasn't until I got a request for new garb from one of my closest friends, that I considered opening a shop to make this my second income. I guess I really knocked it out of the park, because he called me raving from a festival, and said he couldn't count the compliments he'd received on his attire. So in 2012, I opened the Nerdy Hook & Needle. It was still just a side project, a creative outlet, if you will. I made a prom gown for a friend, a bridal gown for one of my best friends, and several other crochet items for my co-workers. I attended a small Women's Faith Fashion Show in 2013 as the only student in the advanced sewing level and created a dress from scratch in 5 hours. I have also attended a 2014 Fashion Week Workshop, here in Omaha, and decided that while I love the fashion industry, that just wasn't the route I wanted to take. In the past year, my orders really picked up, and in June I decided to leave the corporate life behind in pursuit of my dream. To be a work-from-home mom, and spend my days creating the most amazing pieces I can. I didn't quite make it the amazing career I dreamed of, and wound up going back into the workforce. This time, I chose a job that suited me and began working for a master costumer who owns his own shop locally. I've only been there for a few months but I've already learned tons! So far, it's really been amazing to see the positive feedback and support I've received! I couldn't do it without everyone who's stood by me this whole time. I love you all. This is my dream... I want to be forever busy creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind items for beautiful, one-of-a-kind people.
