National Association of Women In Construction Greater Omaha Chapter #116

NAWIC is an organization of women that are employed in the construction industry. It was founded in 1953 by 16 women working in the construction industry. state.

The Chapter meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at varied locations in the Omaha, Nebraska area. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. NAWIC has a diverse membership and more than 140 chapters, with chapters in almost every U.S. Since 1996, NAWIC has seen its Core Purpose grow worldwide and has International Affiliation Agreements with the Canadian Association of Women in Construction, NAWIC-Australia, NAWIC-New Zealand, NAWIC-United Kingdom and South African Women in Construction. In NAWIC’s 59 years of service to its membership, the Association has advanced the causes of all women in construction, from tradeswomen to business owners.

This month, our Immediate Past President, Recording Secretary, and two additional chapter members attended the Fall Conference, hosted by in Watertown, South Dakota!

Throughout the conference, attendees participated in leadership development sessions, gained valuable insights, and connected with members across the region. From professional development and communication to team building and personal growth, they brought home new ideas to strengthen our chapter and continue supporting the missions of NEF and NFSF.

We are especially proud to recognize three of our chapter members serving as Midwest Region Committee Chairs:
🔹 Jennifer Harris – Professional Development & Education (PD&E) and Awards Chair
🔹 Sonja Norris – Safety & Health Awareness and OSHA Alliance
🔹 Cathy Sorrell – Sustainability

The conference brought together 51 members from 18 chapters, including 17 first-time attendees, highlighting the continued growth and engagement of our region.

A special thank you to Dakota Prairie Chapter #394 for hosting a wonderful event and Midwest Region President Rebecca Heustess for her leadership!

We're excited to put what we've learned into action and continue growing as leaders while supporting our chapter, industry, and communities!
