However, many people don't know about the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI)--a 14-island archipelago which includes the islands of Tinian, Rota and the capital of Saipan. It's a less well-known territory of the United

States, located in the Pacific Ocean about four hours from Japan. And until you've discovered Saipan, you can't really say you know US, now can you? The Japanese "discovered" Saipan a long time ago! It's been a favorite vacation spot for decades. Thousands visit Saipan's white sand beaches and enjoy Saipan's water sports, world class diving, unique cultural mix and more! US military personnel and their families know Saipan. Saipan was the battle ground for one of the most fiercely fought battles of World War II, and Tinian was the take-off point for the infamous Enola Gay flight to Hiroshima. Contract workers from Asia and the Pacific, too, "discovered" Saipan. For many years, Saipan's garment industry attracted thousands of workers in search of higher wages and opportunity. Even Russians have "discovered" Saipan. The CNMI's unique immigration policy allowed Russians to travel visa-free to get a taste of America and a tropical vacation from the cold Russian winters. The indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian populations of Micronesia know Saipan, and have been living here for thousands of years. And quite recently, Saipan, situated atop the Marianas Trench--the deepest part of the world's oceans-- was the site of a grass roots conservation effort that resulted in the landmark designation of the Marianas Trench Marine Monument. ■ THE TRAGEDY
A stray mother cat was killed by a car in Susupe, Saipan around March 18, 2026, leaving behind four very young kittens on the floor of an abandoned office.

One kitten has already died. (Mar 22 Update: a second
kitten is missing and has likely died)

The remaining kittens are extremely fragile and require feeding every 2–3 hours with kitten milk formula or a nursing mother in order to survive.

■ A SMALL WINDOW OF HOPE
Wayne Debellonia, Saipan's Cat Rescuer, has a recently spayed cat that is still producing milk and may be able to nurse them—but immediate support is needed to stabilize the kittens and provide proper feeding.

■ HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL BE USED
Donations will be used to purchase and provide essential supplies for the kittens, including:
• Kitty Formula = $114.00 (6cans 16oz @ $19/can

• Probiotic Food= $46.00 (~1.00/lb;40lb)

• Kitty Litter = $12.50 (20lb)

• Powdered Goat's Milk= $20.00/pint

• Homemade Formula = $10.00/quart

• Lactose-Free Milk = $8.00/quart

• Eggs = $6.00/dozen

• DeWormer = $45.00

• Antibiotics = $50.00

• Basic medical support (deworming, antibiotics if needed)

If we (hopefully) exceed our initial goal, there are dozens more cats,
home-based facilities that will benefit and for which public donations
are sorely needed and appreciated!

All funds are received and managed by me and will be used directly to purchase supplies for the kittens.
