NBDowntown (or NBDT) is a community organization for people who live, work, own a business, own property, or provide services to the New Bern, North Carolina Downtown Historic District. Proof of residence will be required, and is available to rental residents as well as homeowners. Rental residents and employees will be required to provide proof of residence or employment within the district each
year. It has no website as yet, but is in the process of gathering the contact information of people who fit the above guidelines and would like to be included in the organization. The benefits of joining the organization will be the ability to be listed on the website in public and/or private sections. Public sections will make available listings of businesses by category, free links to websites of the listed business or a page on the website if the business does not have a website or should that business simply choose to have a page as well as a link. Public reviews of the business may be posted on the business's public pages. It will also include the public listing of any residents, including rental residents, or employees of businesses who choose this option. It will have free links to other public organization websites or individual websites, and free links to non-profit and charitable organizations within the historic district, and to non-profit or charitable organiztions not within the district that have direct bearing or impact on the District. If non-profit or charitable organizations do not have a website, they can apply for a page in the public section of the website, at no charge. The public section of the website will also be made available to any organization, business or individual in the Downtown Historic District to list an event, and post a free link to that event if it is described more fully elsewhere. The private area of the website will give members, and ONLY members access to reviews of local businesses and service providers by other members. Service providers not actually located within the boundaries of the National Historic Downtown District will only be able to be available for viewing by the members if a member writes a review of that business. At that time, service providers outside the National Downtown Historic District will be eligible for membership in the review section. The private section of the website will also include a directory of members which will include as much information as that member desires, including a way to get in touch with that member without giving out contact information. Membership dues will be $10 per year. Links to member websites will be at no cost, and a separate page in the public section of the website will be $10 per year. The cost to elegible service providers located outside the Districtict, will be $10 per year, and will include a link to the website of the business. On the website, photos can be posted on individual pages. Discussions on pertinent topics will be open to all members, within the guidelines of good taste and our good Southern manners.
