I had the opportunity to meet Otis today.

He was picking up litter along Crumbley Road near Kelleytown.

He recycles aluminum to supplement his retirement.

If you see Otis, be sure to slow down and give him some room.

And if you have a couple extra bucks to spare, consider giving him a tip for this community service

He says he has to replace his brakes regularly. ❤️

This was shared on the page earlier today.

I know there are a lot of folks out there that have no respect for private property. And they are proud to be that way.

So they leave their personal trash wherever they please. Diapers. Condoms. Surgical masks. Tooth flossers. Chicken wing bones. V**e and smoking paraphernalia. Fast food debris.

And then it becomes someone else’s problem.

So your community starts to resemble the town dump.

The managers and employees of the stores don’t care, either. They walk right past it. They have other things to do.

Then folks like me stop shopping there because it’s disgusting. I’ll just take my business somewhere else where someone gives a damn.

We’ve got to start doing better than this, folks.

I went to The Home Depot in McDonough this morning. The parking lot was nasty.

This is a place that sells blowers, trash bags, w**d killer, hedge trimmers, and mulch. Everything they need to keep it looking nice right there on the shelves.

Yet it looks like complete and utter you know what.

Who do we start contacting to get these businesses to take some initiative?

I’m serious.

I won’t step foot in Target. It’s a mess. Inside and out. And everyone walks around there like it’s okay.

No. We can’t rely on the public to do the right thing. They are going to litter. You can’t stop them.

The stores must maintain their property. Every single day. It’s part of running a business that attracts hundreds of customers daily.

You don’t see a Chick-fil-A parking lot looking like this. You don’t see a Publix parking lot looking like this.

The same slobs patronize these businesses, yet Chick-fil-A and Publix make the effort to maintain their storefronts.

We must hold each other accountable to higher standards. And we need to start shaming those that keep behaving badly.

I appreciate Commissioner Michael Price commenting on the post from earlier today discussing the need for routine maintenance of our Interstate 75 exits.

I think we can all agree that they look awful.

These exits are the first impressions that many visitors and potential new residents/business owners have of our community.

It’s embarrassing.

They are overgrown and filled with litter. And vehicle debris from accidents.

Like me, Commissioner Price grew up in this community.

Seeing things look like this is sad. And it doesn’t have to be that way.

I’m urging Price and all county/city leadership to take this seriously.

Listen to us.

Most of us don’t ask for much.

But we should expect our roadways to look better than they are. Especially exit ramps, medians and roundabouts.

Commissioner Price is not my district. He is in a runoff for the primary election.

I’ve always had favorable interactions with him. And I would vote to keep him working for us if I could.

I think we can all agree that our I-75 exits look like dumps.

To its credit, the City of Stockbridge had a guy mowing the ramps at the Jodeco Rd exit last week.

I pay attention to this stuff. I take photos and I make mental notes.

He was also picking up litter BEFORE he ran the mower over it, which is a basic concept the state DOT seems to not understand.

The county and other cities, including City of McDonough, could be doing exactly what Stockbridge is doing on Jodeco.

Don’t wait on the state DOT to come by twice a year to do a sloppy cut and scatter the litter everywhere.

This is not costly or complicated.

It's just making the effort to care and getting it done.

I don’t want anyone to ask me to vote for T-SPLOST until the county takes the initiative to clean up the medians on Jonesboro Road from Kelly Road to across the bridge to Home Depot.

I’m sick and tired of it looking like a damn disgrace.

Shrubs that have been dead for years. Weeds and litter. Road debris piled up along the curbs. Wild grass growing everywhere.

It’s shameful.

How much does it cost to trim this up, kill the w**ds, pull out the dead stuff, and spread some mulch?

Come on.

Our leadership drives up and down this road every day like it’s acceptable.

Take some pride in maintaining our roadways.

And why does every single one of our I-75 exits look like a dump?

I don’t care if it’s the state DOT that’s supposed to maintain the exits. The county or cities needs to step in.

How do you attract quality businesses to our community when it looks like trash?

How do you motivate citizens and businesses to maintain their properties when the county won’t even do its share?

Garbage will always atttact more garbage.

It’s time to do better. It’s past time.

I’ll be watching and taking notes between now and November.

I’ve had enough.

Henry County Schools will offer its annual summer meal service through June 25.

Selected schools will serve free breakfast and lunch Monday-Thursday for students under the age of 19.

Adults may purchase breakfast for $2.75 and lunch for $4.50.

Breakfast will be served from 8-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 12-12:30 p.m.

Participants must eat meals on site in the cafeteria.
