A little more about me…
Growing up in Marshfield (class of 1997), my parents instilled in me the importance of education, hard work, and caring for our community. Building my professional career on these values, I have dedicated much of my life to ensuring that all kids receive the best education possible. I earned my BA in Sociology and Elementary Education from Merrimack College in 2001. I then
gave a year of voluntary service with AmeriCorps, in a program where we partnered senior citizen volunteers with second and third grade students in the Brockton public school system who were struggling readers. Following AmeriCorps, I spent two years as a teaching assistant at the Lyons Elementary School in Randolph. It was here I developed my passion for special education. In 2004, I took a special education teaching position at MS 584, a middle school that was launching in Brooklyn, New York. In all, I spent five years teaching and coordinating the school’s intervention, testing, and special education programs. I also worked closely with the administration and faculty on issues dealing with the school budget, personnel, testing, data, scheduling, and technology. While in Brooklyn, I earned an MS in Special Education with a focus on learning disabilities from Hunter College in 2008. It was also during this time that I got to see firsthand the inequities in our educational system. From that time on, I committed myself to being an advocate for all children, particularly those children whose voice is not heard. In 2009, I took a position at the Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester, teaching English and Math classes for grades five through eight, as well as the middle school Literacy Specialist. It was during this time I married my husband, Taylor Campbell, who also grew up in Marshfield. Charlotte, my first daughter was born in 2011 and my life changed. I looked at education not just as a teacher, but as a parent as well. When my second daughter was born in 2014, I made the decision to temporarily step away from full time teaching to spend more time with my girls. However, I could never leave education completely, and began tutoring part time this past fall. My passion for education is second only to my passion for my family and my community. That’s why Taylor and I decided to return to Marshfield and raise our children in a community we love. I am so excited to have the opportunity to run for Marshfield School Committee and thank you for your support!
